Avis’ life story
Avis J. Hasfjord
A resident of Prior Lake, Avis Jean Hasfjord, age 78, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Sunday afternoon, January 26, 2014, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, MN. The Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, January 31 at 11 am, with visitation starting at 9:30 am, all at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church 3611 North Berens Road NW, Prior Lake. Pastor Diana Hunstad will preside. Avis will be laid to rest next to her husband at Spring Lake Cemetery in Prior Lake, MN.
On November 29, 1935 in Fargo, ND, Avis was born to parents Harris and Elvera (Anderson) Hendrickson.
The oldest of two children, Avis lost her mother, at the age of 8. For many years, she lived and was raised by her grandmother’s. Growing up on the family farm’s, Avis helped with the cooking and cleaning, while the men were in the fields and tending to the livestock. Years later, her father Harris married Alice and she now welcomed a sister, Nancy. Together, they enjoyed their time spent together, but mischief defiantly followed them.
Graduating from Christine High School, Avis furthered her education for a short time. She wanted to be a nurse, but soon found herself exploring education. Avis’s life was redirected, after meeting a young musician, Roger Hasfjord, while playing his guitar. On December 11, 1954 at Christine Lutheran Church in Christine, ND, they exchanged wedding vows. They were blessed with three daughters, Vickie, Pam and Joan.
First settling their roots in Minneapolis, Avis and Roger found them moving south to Prior Lake in 1965, where they made their home. They enjoyed dancing and Avis loved to sit in the audience listening to Roger play in a band. In the earlier years, the family spent summers at cabins up north. Later years, Avis and her family enjoyed summers camping in a camper at various resorts, with countless hours spent fishing. She seemed to always out fish Roger, which frustrated him. Avis lost the love of her life, Roger on September 26, 2008.
Avis enjoyed sewing, knitting, watching FOX and CNN news and was an avid reader of western, historical and romance novels. An exceptional baker and cook, she was always changing recipes to create something better. Avis also loved to watch the birds, especially the Cardinals and petting the family dogs. In more recent years, her passion in life was sitting quietly, with a huge smile on her face, as the great-grandchildren played.
An independent, polite and self determined wife, mom and grandma, Avis had this great sense of humor, who always put others needs first. Deeply missed and remembered always by those who loved Avis, children, Vickie (Tim) Perrier of Prior Lake, Pam (Ray) Weierke of Sturgis, SD, Joan (Bill Jr.) Henzler of Burnsville; grandchildren, Jill Perrier, Aja Perrier, Cody (Lindsay) McKinley, Amanda (Joe) Stang, Bill (Britney) Henzler III, Derek Henzler; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Stang, Autumn Stang, Payton McKinley, Adison Henzler; sister-in-law, Mary Krugmand; Uncle Stanley Hendrickson; Aunt Marilyn Hendrickson and other loving relatives and devoted friends.
Avis is preceded in death by her husband, Roger; parents; brother, Jerome Hendrickson; sister, Nancy Trumble.
Urn bearers for Avis will be her three daughters.
