Betty L. Brecheisen

Betty passed away Sunday morning, January 12, 2025, with her loving husband and family by her side. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 12:00 Noon, with visitation from 10:00 AM - 11:45 AM, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (833 S. Marschall Rd.) in Shakopee. Pastor Art Hansen will preside, and Betty's grandsons will act as pallbearers. Betty will be laid to rest at Valley Cemetery in Shakopee. Memorials are preferred and will be distributed by Betty's family in her honor.

Betty Louise Brecheisen was born on November 12, 1939, to Rev. Lawrence and Iola Swanson, the second of five children, in Sycamore, IL. She lived as a “pastor’s kid” in Chicago, IL, Gothenburg, NE, and Cadillac, MI. At 7 years old in Cadillac, she accepted Jesus as her Savior. In Chicago as a teenager, Betty attended Addison Street Baptist Church and Lake View High School, and during that time she met George Brecheisen.

Betty attended Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing from 1959-1961. She graduated as an RN in 1961. Betty and George were married by her father in Chicago on August 12, 1961. Their first apartment was on the campus of Bethel College and Seminary in St. Paul, MN. They also lived in Grand Portage and Deerwood, MN; Falun, WI; Denison, IA; and Kerkhoven, Willmar, Shakopee, and Apple Valley, MN. Betty and George have 5 children.

She loved her family in her roles as a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Betty served the Lord with passion with her many gifts. She played piano, led Awana clubs, hosted guests in her home, led activities in her job at a nursing home, and prayed for her children and grandchildren. Betty loved Jesus, reading Christian novels, playing board games, and evening walks. 

She is survived by her sister Barbara (Don Remer) and sister-in-law, Michele (Bob Kamholz). Her loving husband of 63 years, George. Their 5 children: Paul (Natasha), Cindy (Dan Johnson), Mark (Denise), David (Joscey), and Steven (Rochelle). Grandchildren: Erik, Maxim, Peter (Rose), Elizabeth (David), Nathan, Miriam, Justin (Christina), Alison, Alexander, Mariah, Leah, Luke, Hannah (Ryan), Ashley, Josiah, and Samuel. Great grandchildren Thira and Eloise. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, a nephew and friends.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and lola Swanson; brothers, Joseph, Carl, and John (Virginia).
