Betty’s life story
Betty McCaskey
Myrtle Elizabeth “Betty” McCaskey was born in Urbana, IL on August 30, 1916 to parents Roy and Charlotta (Brehm) Hunt. She was the 5th of seven children. She enjoyed attending a one room school house, eventually graduating from high school.
Betty was a longtime recording secretary for the city of Fort Worth, TX. She married James McCaskey on July 31, 1942. They had five children, Daniel, Richard, Robert, Bonnie, Margaret and were blessed with 20 foster children.
Known for her strong will and generosity, Betty, age 96, died peacefully and entered God’s arms on the evening hours of April 24, 2013, with her daughter, Bonnie by her side. She is now reunited with her husband, James, who died November 30, 2003 after being married 61 years.
Betty and her family shared the love of music, whether they were performing on their own or together with their church. She had a deep passion for her grandchildren and it was also known that if there was a family event or reunion, it was likely planned by Betty. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she made sure everyone received a gift from her. After retirement, her and James enjoyed traveling, and were proud to say that they traveled all 48 of the contiguous United States.
Forever loved, Betty will be deeply missed by her children, Daniel (Nancy) McCaskey, Richard (Barbara) McCaskey, Robert (Monica) McCaskey, Bonnie (Lonnie) Stein, Margaret (Ron) Bachman; grandchildren, Kate, Mark, Rebecca, Amy, John, Elisabeth, Daniel, James, Sara, Andrew, Kellen, Christopher, Kara, Krystle, Hayley; 9 great-grandchildren; many other loving relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James McCaskey; parents, Roy and Charlotta (Brehm) Hunt; grandson, Steven Shelley;
