Carl M. Wiseman

Carl M. Wiseman, of Prior Lake, passed away in his home the afternoon of Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the age of 83. A Celebration of Life Service is Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 6:00 PM with visitation from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation, Prior Lake. Jean Breeggemann will preside.

On August 11, 1931 Carl and Amelia Wiseman celebrated the birth of their first born son, Carl Martin Wiseman, Jr. When Carl was young his family moved around for his dad’s career. No matter where they lived, Carl always found time for his favorite past-time, fishing. He especially liked the time he spent with his father making special fishing lures.

When Carl was a teenager, his family moved to St. Paul. Carl was a fun guy and had many friends. They loved hanging out in the 7 th Street area. It was in this neighborhood that Carl had his first job. He worked as a shoe-shine boy at a local restaurant. He later worked for a local bowling alley setting up pins. Carl attended Monroe High School and graduated in 1949.

After high school, Carl enrolled at the University of Minnesota. He completed one year of school before moving to the Seattle area. He originally planned to drive a friend’s car out to Washington and return home. But when he got out there he began working for Western Airlines. Carl stayed in Seattle for a year before getting homesick and moving back to Minnesota.

Carl continued working for Western Airlines which eventually became Delta. Through the years he had a number of positions within the company. He was a cargo man, worked at the ticket counter and eventually worked his way up to a management position. Carl worked at Delta for 34 years. He was proud of the work he did and enjoyed the perks that came with working for an airline. His job allowed him to travel all over the world.

But the best perk came at a company picnic on Spring Lake when Carl met the love of his life, Shirley Tvedt. Carl and Shirley exchanged wedding vows on October 27, 1956. They were blessed with three wonderful children, Bob, Vicki and Bill. Carl and Shirley lived in Crystal for a few years before moving their family to Fairfax, VA. While in Virginia, Carl became a history buff. He took the family to all kinds of historical sites. In 1975 the Wiseman family moved back to MN and settled in the Prior Lake area.

Carl loved living on Spring Lake. He was able to fish whenever he wanted. Every morning he’d have a cup of coffee while watching the ducks on the lake and read the sports section of the newspaper. Carl was always a huge sports fan and was a member of the MN Minute Men Group. He was an avid supporter of amateur and professional sports in MN. He especially liked cheering on the Vikings and Gophers.

The other passion in Carl’s life was traveling. He and Shirley took many trips together. They were always going to new places. They also made yearly trips to Naples, Florida each winter. Carl and Shirley had a second home in Naples, and they made many wonderful friends there.

Carl was a spirited man. He was very proud of the things he got to see and do throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and remembered always by his loving wife, Shirley Wiseman; children, Bob (JoAnne) Wiseman, Vicki Wiseman, Bill (Lisa Drogemuller) Wiseman; grandchildren, Jill Schmaltz, Troy Schmaltz, Jake Wiseman, Cherry Wiseman, Taylor wiseman, Luke Wiseman, Tanner Wiseman, Riley Wiseman, Wyatt Wiseman, Tianna Wiseman; great-grandchildren; Eavie and JaeLynn; sisters, Julie (Ray) Knutson, Linda (Richard) Weinhandle; other loving relatives and friends. Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Amelia Wiseman and brother, John Wiseman.

The Wiseman family is served with honor, care and compassion by Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation.
