Albert and Mary (Franta) David announced the birth of Caryl Theresa on October 15, 1930. Born and raised on the family farm in Montgomery, MN, she grew up there with her brother and two sisters. After graduating from Montgomery High School, Kay took the training to be a teacher and taught for one year.

While at a baseball game, Kay met the love of her life, Wilfred “Bill” John Vogel. He was instantly drawn to her wit and sense of humor. You could say, “They truly hit it off! “On June 6, 1950, at Most Holy Redeemer in Montgomery, MN, Kay and Bill were united in Holy Matrimony. They made New Market their home just shy of 73 years. Here, Kay and Bill raised four children, Bob, Mary, Janet, and Ken.

Kay worked part time as a teller at the bank Bill managed. However, family was Kay’s core. Each day was filled with cooking and baking for them. Kay was especially proud of her Czech heritage and loved making family and friends her famous Kolaches. As a couple, Kay and Bill loved fishing, golfing, and spending time at the cabin. As she watched her children grow, Kay became a proud grandma and great grandma. She showered each of them with deep love and enjoyed teaching them the skills of fishing, and golfing, with special times playing Yahtzee and Uno.

Kay lived a simple and full life. She loved the quiet moments of reading. Kay especially enjoyed taking her chances at the casino, in hopes of winning it big someday. In 2008, after a near drowning experience, she endured a lot of challenges over the next 15 years. An active and devout Catholic her entire life, Kay found herself leaning more on God and his graces, praying the rosary several times a day and reading her devotions. Kay’s unconditional love, strength and generosity will be forever instilled in her family.

Endlessly loved and greatly missed by children, Bob (Laura) Vogel, Mary (John) Christiansen, Janet (Bryan) Freeman; daughter-in-law, Lois Vogel; grandchildren, Anita (Jeremy)Drentlaw, Karen (Jason) Ramola, David (Samantha) Christiansen, Kristin (Drew) Vogel, Catie (Derek) Nieveen, Tony Vogel; great grandchildren, Mikayla, Emily, Grace, Tenley, Aurora and coming soon twins; other relatives and friends.
