Daniel Lee Sandstrom, age 79 of Shakopee, passed away on November 15, 2016. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 4:00-6:00PM with a funeral service at 6:00PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation in Shakopee. Daniel will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Daniel was born to Arthur and Carrie (Seavey) Sandstrom in Minneapolis, MN on November 30, 1936. During his youth, Daniel worked as a soda jerk at Harvey’s Drug Store on Franklin Avenue. After graduating from Minneapolis South, Daniel enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was stationed numerous places, most notably Japan. After leaving the service, Daniel met Donna Meader. On May 7, 1960, the couple exchanged wedding vows.

Family was the most important aspect of Daniel’s life. The Sandstrom’s enjoyed weekends at the cabin with extended family. When they returned home, the family would gather around the kitchen table, enjoying one another’s company. In his later years, Daniel loved spending time with his grandchildren.

A hard-working man, Daniel spent 40 years as a machinist foreman at Hub Manufacturing before retiring in 2000. In his retirement, Daniel committed himself to building a home Up North with the help of his family. He loved to fish, hunt, do woodworking, and cheer on the Vikings and Minnesota Gophers.

Daniel was an extremely caring, considerate man who put others before himself. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Donna; children, Douglas Sandstrom, Debra (Lloyd) Kaufhold, David (Lori) Sandstrom; grandchildren, Daniel Lindfors, Jacob Lindfors, Samantha Sandstrom, Hunter Bullock, Cody Bullock; sisters, Arlene Munsinger, Laverne Rocksted, Margaret (Dennis) Nida; sisters-in-law, Ruth Sandstrom, Joyce Friedman, Ailene (Kim) Cusack; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Daniel is preceded by parents, Arthur and Carrie; brothers, Archie Sandstrom, Jerry Sandstrom; brothers-in-law, LeRoy Munsinger, Rocky Rocksted.
