Darlene H. Borka
Edwin and Esther (Foster) Segler, proudly announced the birth of their daughter, Darlene on Friday, September 25, 1938 in Norwood, Minnesota. The second oldest child of eight children, Darlene grew up in Norwood and later graduated from Prior Lake High School in 1956.
Following high school, Darlene attended school to earn a beautician license. For most of her career, she was a professional seamstress for over 50 years. Darlene sewed thousands of wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses. She also sewed hundreds of home coming and prom dresses. Expanding her talents, Darlene clothed many newly baptized babies with a small white baptismal bib for the Church of St. Michael. Over the last many years, she even sewed an enormous amount of ladies neck scarves. As a side job, Darlene also worked as a waitress at Olive Garden, Prior Lake V.F.W. and the Charthouse.
In her spare time, Darlene enjoyed designing and decorating of all occasions. However, Christmas was her favorite holiday. Darlene loved to be with her family and take in the sights and sounds of Christmas. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends and became quite an avid golfer too. As the grandchildren came along, Darlene relished being a grandmother and cherished traveling to visit them.
On Wednesday morning of October 24, 2012 at St. Gertrude’s Health Care in Shakopee, Darlene entered heaven with a Pepsi in one hand and coupons for anything in the other. She was 74 years young and a lifelong resident of Prior Lake, MN.
Forever loved by her children, Randall (Paige Van Duyn) Borka of Prior Lake, Kerry (Ken) McCullum of Richmond, TX, Timothy Borka of Fairbault, Tami (Tom) Armstrong of Carnation, WA, Todd Borka of Lakeville; grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Simmons, Joshua Borka, Jacob McCullum, Derrick Borka, Cole and Cayden Sowards, Jackson Armstrong; siblings, Harlan (Carol) Segler of Jordan, Diane Schroeder of Prior Lake, Donna Busacker of Jordan, Charles Segler of Prior Lake, Dale (Peggy) Segler of Spicer, Bruce (Jeanne) Segler of Mesa, AR.
Darlene is preceded in death by infant daughter, Kimberly Borka; former husband, Ralph Borka; parents, Edwin and Esther Segler; brother, Edwin Segler; brother-in-law, Keith Schroeder; brother-in-law, William Busacker; nieces, Octvia Schroeder and Lisa Segler.
Urn bearers will be Greg Segler, Brian Schroeder, Barry Busacker, Michael Segler, Barb Kappers and Renee Jorgenson, with honorary urn bearers of John Simmons, Joshua Borka, Jacob McCullum, Derrick Borka and Cole Sowards.
The funeral mass will be on Monday, October 29, at 11 am, with visitation two hours prior to the mass all at the Church of St. Michael 16311 Duluth Avenue SE, Prior Lake, MN. Father Tom Sieg will preside. Darlene will be laid to rest at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.
The Borka family is served with honor, care and compassion from Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake Chapel.
