Dave’s life story

David “Dave” Jerome Moline

A resident of Burnsville, David Jerome Moline, age 79, passed away peacefully, with his loving family at his side, on Sunday afternoon, February 9, 2014, at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN. The Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, February 15 at 11:00 am, with visitation starting at 9:30 am, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, with full military honors provided by the Prior Lake V.F.W. Honor Guard. Pastor Brent Parrish will preside. Dave will be laid to rest Monday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.

On Tuesday, September 29, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN, Dave was born to parents Alton and Viola (Krieps) Moline. An only child for almost ten years, he later became the big brother to Susan and Julie. As a teenager, Dave enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father. He spent summers at Camp Vermillion and was a group leader for the Great YMCA. Dave graduated from Southwest High School in 1952 where he also was a member of the Southwest Choir and lettered in track.

Dave earned a degree in Chemical Engineering, graduating second in his class in 1957 from the University of Minnesota. While attending college, he was also enrolled in the ROTC program. Needing to fulfill the Army obligation, Dave was stationed for two years in Maryland and California, as an Ordinance Shop supervisor. He was honorably discharged in 1959 as a 1st Lieutenant and shortly after began his employment at 3M as a Chemical Engineer Specialist, where he was instrumental in the development of Scotch Guard. After 37 years Dave retired on July 1, 1997.

In October of 1954, Dave was introduced to Nancy Lou Ewert, through mutual college friends. On Saturday, March 19, 1955, they exchanged wedding vows, at Lake Harriet United Methodist Church in Minneapolis, MN. They were blessed with two children, Andrea “Andi” and David. First living in Richfield for many years, his family moved to Burnsville in 1968. As a family, they enjoyed downhill skiing trips to Wisconsin and Michigan. He was also active in Andi’s gymnastic club, as the president and enjoyed hunting with David. In his later years Dave treasured becoming a grandpa. These were proud moments and he relished spending time with all of his grandchildren.

In earlier years, Dave was a talented artist, drawing pictures using charcoal. An avid reader, he would read the newspaper from cover to cover and then pick up a book and continue to read. Dave also treasured sitting around visiting with family and friends. Over the last decade, he dealt with several health issues, but it was the passing of his daughter, Andi on January 25, 2013, that greatly affected his health issues better known as a broken heart.

Remembered always for his outgoing and friendly personality and intelligent mind, Dave will be deeply missed by those who loved him, especially wife of almost 59 years, Nancy: son, David (Lori) Moline of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Brandon Rolfes, Sara (Zach Chazin, fiancé) Rolfes, Tim Moline, Tyler Moline: great-grandson, Jackson Andrew Chazin; former son-in-law, Chuck Rolfes; sisters, Susan (Jim) Gulstrand of Grand Marias, Julie (Mike) Svendahl of Plymouth; sister-in-law, Pat Ewert of Burnsville; other loving relatives and devoted friends.

Dave is preceded in death by his daughter, Andi Moline; parents, Alton and Viola Moline; parents-in-law, Carl and Myrtle Ewert; and brother-in-law, Chuck Ewert.
