David Peterson

David Peterson, of Jordan, passed away peacefully in his home the evening of November 27, 2017 at the age of 59.

The family will greet friends from 10-12noon on Saturday, December 2, 2017 with concluding prayers at 12noon. A reception will follow, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 833 S. Marschall Rd., Shakopee.

On August 21, 1958 David LeRoy Peterson was born to LeRoy and Marion Peterson. David was the third of seven children, and he loved growing up in Minneapolis. From a young age, David was mischievous and always pushing the boundaries. Although he got into some serious trouble in his life, David always tried to make the best of his situation.

During his time in jail, he completed coursework and earned his GED. He also acted as a substitute teacher in jail, and was able to help others. This was an opportunity for David to turn things around and make a better life for himself, but the biggest turning point in David’s life was when he was introduced to a wonderful woman, Pat Bortness.

Pat brought stability and love into David’s life. They met through a mutual friend in 1993, and their love grew deeper every day. Finally, after eight years, David and Pat were married July 14, 2001. David always joked that it took him that long to train her in…

David and Pat shared a great life together. They loved the outdoors, and spent a lot of time camping. They started out in tents, but eventually upgraded to a camper when Pat requested a port-o-potty. Soon The MN Explorer became like Pat’s bible, and she’d use it to plan wonderful trips for them all over our beautiful state. Pat always found the best spots for them. Over the years, they found a few special spots that they kept coming back to. Morristown was their favorite, but they also enjoyed Lanesboro where they’d spend hours watching the eagles together.

He also liked fishing, making campfires, playing cards cribbage with his brother. Some of his favorite games were Sequence and Yatzee. David also enjoyed spending time with his pets. He and Pat have four dogs and a cat which David referred to as “The Kids”. Although David had many interests, they most important thing in his life was his family. He was very close to his family, and if anyone needed help, he was right there to get the job done. David also had a great work ethic. He worked at Olson Tool and Plastics for many years, and eventually became a supervisor.

David was a loving, caring and big-hearted man. He will be deeply missed and remembered always by his loving wife, Pat Peterson; dad, LeRoy Peterson; siblings, Lynn Scharonbroch, Steven (Carrie) Peterson, Raymond (Tammy) Peterson, Kathy Thompson, Gary Peterson, Laurie Peterson; devoted sister-in-law, Helen Ocampo; other loving family and friends. David was preceded by his mom, Marion Peterson and mother-in-law, Shirley Bortness.
