Dexter Sidney

Dexter Joseph Sidney, age 75, died of respiratory failure on Friday, June 8, 2018, at his home in Prior Lake, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer and obstructive pulmonary disease.

A Celebration of Life Service will be observed on Saturday, June 16, at 11 am, at Colonial Church of Edina, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina, MN, followed by a reception lunch in the Great Hall. A committal with military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 19, at 1:45 pm, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th AV S, Minneapolis, MN. Meet at Assembly Area #2. Memorials may be given to Colonial Church of Edina or the Prior Lake VFW.

After graduating from Dowling High School in Des Moines, IA, Mr. Sidney served six years in the US Marine Corps. He earned a Purple Heart in Vietnam. He attended Loras College in Dubuque, IA and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines and received a Master’s Degree in Business Law from Butler School of Law.

Mr. Sidney’s career spanned the fields of journalism, banking, corporate purchasing/procurement and management consulting. He joined the FDIC – Resolution Trust Corporation resolving asset disposition of collapsed loan institutions during the Savings and Loan crisis of the 80’s. Mr. Sidney oversaw implementation of technology during the building and occupancy of Norwest (now Wells Fargo) Tower in Minneapolis. He played senior management roles with GE Capital IT Solutions and American Express before returning in 2002 to government service as a Senior Executive Service Officer at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington DC. In 2005. Mr. Sidney returned to Minnesota as Director of HUD’s Minnesota Field Office.

Before his retirement in 2015, Mr. Sidney resided in Burnsville for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Prior Lake VFW and the Marine Corps League.

Mr. Sidney is survived by his beloved wife, Karen, Prior Lake; son, Douglas, Apple Valley; daughter, Shannon Laska, Burnsville; son-in-law, Scott Laska, Eagan; grandson, Andrew Laska, Eagan; stepsons, Erik Miller, St. Paul; and Karl (Jennifer) Miller, Vancouver, WA.

Mr. Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Blanche (Carey) Sidney.
