Diane M. Schmitt, age 62, passed away on April 3, 2024, at Nagel Assisted Living in Waconia, MN.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 11 am to 2 pm at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. Her burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague, MN.
Diane was born January 19, 1962, to James and Rosemary (Geiger) VonBank. She was the 7th of 11 children and raised in New Prague, MN. Diane attended New Prague High School and was active in sports and co – captain on the pom pom team . After graduation, Diane studied to be a dental assistant at Normandale Community College. She married and welcomed a daughter and son into the world. Diane later remarried and welcomed 2 more children, another son and daughter.
Diane was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at a young age, but Diane remained active working on the family’s farm near St. Patrick, MN. The family moved to Eden Valley, MN in 2000, where she remained active for several more years, until Diane had to relocate due to declining health. She spent 17 years in Buffalo, MN before transferring to Nagel assisted living in 2021. Diane enjoyed visiting with family and friends, spending time with her children, playing cards, crocheting & garage sale shopping. Diane was known for her work ethic, fiery personality, and was ready to make anyone laugh with a joke.
Diane is survived by her children, Shae Hennen, Sean Schmitt, Thomas (Lauren) Schmitt, Ambria (Alex) Schmitt; siblings, Linda (Ron) Deutsch, Greg (Connie) VonBank, Terry VonBank, Sandy (Mark) Scheffler, Tom (Jana) VonBank, Kevin (Carol) VonBank, Bill VonBank; sister-in-law, Karen VonBank; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Diane is preceded in death by her parents, James and Rosemary VonBank; brothers, Steve and Jeff VonBank; sister and niece, Nancy and Candace Simon; infant nephews, Michael & Joseph VonBank. She will be greatly missed.
