Don L. Beissel

Donald L. Beissel, age 97, of Jordan, MN, entered eternal peace on Monday, August 26, 2024, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center, in Shakopee, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11 AM, with a visitation from 9:30-10:45 AM, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 16400 Duluth Avenue SE, Prior Lake. Father Tom Walker will preside. Don will be laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.

Donald was born on February 28, 1927, to Bertram and Edna (Schouweiler) Beissel in Minneapolis, MN. The middle of three boys, Don grew up in Minneapolis, graduating from Holy Name Catholic School and Washburn High School. He developed a love for baseball as a kid and started his collection of cards and coins. He also had a passion for the outdoors and achieved a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Horticulture from the University of Minnesota after serving honorably in the United States Army. Following his college graduation, Don moved West to work at Yellowstone National Park, where he started his career in forestry. Some time later, he decided to come home to Minnesota and worked for over 25 years with Dayton’s Store, while also owning his own landscaping business, Beissel Landscape and Design. He regularly worked at Dayton’s during the day, and then was off landscaping in the evenings! Don retired in his mid-60s and continued to pursue his passions in life.

After moving back to Minnesota, Don became involved with the Catholic Alumni Club, and was blessed to meet the love of his life, Elizabeth Bramwell. Sometime later, Don and Liz were united in marriage on February 15, 1969, at Assumption Church in Richfield, MN. Together, they were blessed with two children, Kenneth and Ann, and bought a house in Jordan, where they have resided ever since! As a family, the Beissels enjoyed many camping trips and annual ventures up north to Grand Marais. Don loved being on the water and out in nature, hunting and fishing, landscaping, and planting all sorts of trees and foliage. He cherished his time on his land in the north woods. Don loved to read as well and had a talent for finishing books within a day of getting a new one! He was a true Minnesotan, and along with hunting and fishing, Don was a staunch supporter of the Twins and Vikings. When he was focused on the game, there was no interrupting him!

Later in life, Don was blessed with grandchildren as well. He had a quiet, but loving relationship with each of them. Don had four priorities in his life: Faith, Family, Work, and Friends. In that order. Don was dedicated to his faith and the Catholic Church throughout his life. He was a faithful man, soft spoken, but always solid. He will be greatly missed by all.

The legacy of Don will be carried on in his beloved wife of 55 years, Liz; children, Kenneth Beissel and Ann (Jeremy) Sinon; grandchildren, Jack Sinon, Adam Sinon, Ashlyn Beissel; brother, Robert (Ala) Beissel; and other relatives and friends. Welcoming Don home in eternal peace are his parents and brother, Kenneth Beissel.

Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation proudly served and cared for the Beissel family.
