Don Hanrahan, of Savage, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at the age of 77. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa.
A Liturgy of the Word Service will be held at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (4565 Pleasant St. SE) in Prior Lake on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:30 – 11:00 AM.
Donald Lee Hanrahan was born to parents LeRoy & Helen (Link) Hanrahan in Liberty Township, Indiana on March 9, 1946. Don loved growing up on the family farm in Valparaiso. As a boy, Don was a bit mischievous, but he never got into too much trouble. He always had a strong work ethic.
Following his graduation from Liberty Township High School, he met Barbara Doyle. Don earned an associate degree from South Bend College of Commerce. Shortly after, Don and Barb were married on October 5, 1968. Their marriage was blessed with many happy years and two wonderful children, Sean and Kelly.
Don provided a good life for his family. He retired from Goodyear after 30+ years with the company. Next, he worked for Tires Plus for a few years before he officially retired. Don was always a hard worker, and he made many wonderful friendships during his career.
Over the years, Don’s work brought the family to many communities. Don and Barb started their family in St. Joseph, MI. Next, they moved to Belgium, McFarland and Brookfield, WI. Then off to Apple Valley, MN. Back to Wisconsin where they lived in Menomonee Falls for a few years before finally settling in Savage, MN in 1995. With all of Don’s transfers, the Hanrahans became a very close-knit family.
Together they enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, gardening, and grilling in the backyard. Don and Barb loved going on adventures together. They’d often hop in the car and drive to a new city eager to explore and enjoy lunch at the local hot spot. Wherever they went, Don always had a “shortcut”.
Above all else, Don was a family man. He loved spending time with his wife and kids. Don also loved being “Be-Ba H” to Donovan. They were two peas in a pod and always had a good time together. Don was very loyal, honest and wise. He was a good judge of character and loved sharing the lessons he’d learned throughout his life. Don also had a fun, silly and sarcastic side. He was a lovable teddy bear, and his family will miss him dearly.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara “Barb” Hanrahan; children, Sean Hanrahan and Kelly Hanrahan; grandson, Donovan Hanrahan. Don was greeted in Heaven by his parents, LeRoy & Helen Hanrahan and sister, Sharon (Tom) Isaacs.
