Duane Deutsch, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, farmer, and friend, passed away March 24, 2025.
A time of gathering will be held for Duane on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 PM, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (104 First Street West) in Jordan. An additional gathering will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Ridges on Sand Creek Golf Course (21775 Ridges Drive) in Jordan, from 10:00-10:50 AM, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM. Military honors will be provided by the Jordan Vets Honor Guard.
Born in 1951 to Arthur and Eunice Deutsch, Duane was a lifelong Minnesotan known for his deep roots, strong work ethic, sharp wit, and generous spirit. Duane attended grade school at St. Benedict school and graduated with the Jordan High School Class of 1969. In January 1971, he was drafted into the U.S. military and honorably served his country in Vietnam. Following his service, Duane returned home and took over the family farm in 1975, devoting himself to dairy and crop farming for over four decades until his retirement in 2019.
That same year, 1975, marked the beginning of another great chapter in Duane’s life when he met the love of his life, Karrie Savage, at a snowmobile dance in Carver, Minnesota. The two married, and in the past 50 years they built a life full of love, laughter, and purpose, raising six wonderful children and eventually becoming proud grandparents to nine.
Duane was a proud member of the Jordan Vets Honor Guard for over 50 years and an active member of the American Legion. He also served his community faithfully as a Helena Township Supervisor for an impressive 37 years.
When not working or serving others, Duane enjoyed bowling league nights, playing cards, road trips, attending his grandchildren’s events, listening to Twins games, restoring tractors, supporting local watering holes, morning coffee gatherings, and going on Ranger rides. He was a practical joker with a quick wit and an infectious laugh—always ready with a joke or a funny story.
Duane is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his wife, Karrie; his children: Kelly (Mel Whitson) Deutsch, Mathew (Apryl) Deutsch, Hannah (Ted) Breeggemann, Sarah (Adrian) Perryman, Jaimie (Michael) Beelow, and Mandi (Heath) Herman; and his grandchildren: Addison, Lacey, Jillian, McKenna, Beckett, Wyatt, Chase, Colt, and McCoy. He is also survived by his brother Milton Deutsch; sisters Joan (Duane) Farkus, Marilyn Bergmann, and Carmen (Richard) Glynn.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Eunice Deutsch; sisters-in-law Lois Deutsch, Linda Savage, and Debbie Edaburn; and brother-in-law Bob Bergmann.
His legacy of love, humor, and service will live on through all who had the honor of knowing him.
