Ed’s Life Story
Edwin G. Pohlmann
The morning of Sunday, October 20, 2013, a kind and wonderful man went home to be with the Lord. Edwin was 90 years old, when he passed away peacefully at Keystone Communities in Prior Lake, MN. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 24 at 11 am, with visitation one hour prior to the mass, all at the Church of St. Michael 16311 Duluth Avenue SE, Prior Lake, MN. Deacon Jim Pufahl will preside. Edwin will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Fort Snelling Volunteer Rifle Squad.
On May 6, 1923 in Melrose, MN, Edwin George was born to parents Frederick and Agnes (Ossenbeck) Pohlmann. He was the second of six children. Ed’s childhood years were spent in Melrose, working on the family farm.
Joining the 77th Division of the Unites States Army, Ed proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant during WWII, in Okinawa, Japan. He also served, as a Staff Sergeant in the 5th Motor Vehicle Squadron, of the United States Air Force Reserves. Ed received the Purple Heart and military honors.
Moving to Minneapolis, after the service, Ed met and married Frances Marie Svidron on April 21, 1951, at St. Albert the Great in Minneapolis. They were blessed with three children, Tom, James, and Dorie. Family life was precious. On January 15, 1971, Frances passed away. This left Ed raising his three children and now taking on the roles of a mother too.
For over 30 years, Ed worked as a letter carrier for the Unites States Postal Service in Bloomington. He was a member of the Postal Union and past member of the Bloomington VFW. After retirement, Ed started remodeling his home. He was a jack of all trades, from putting on siding, to renovating the attic and adding two additional rooms to the home. Ed could do anything!!!
Ed enjoyed telling funny stories, a good game of cards, dancing and spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved spending quality time with his grandchildren, regardless of the interest. Living most of his years in Minneapolis, Ed enjoyed sitting on his porch and watching the planes take off and land. His family will miss his humor and warm smile. It gives them comfort to know that he is dancing in heaven.
Forever loved and deeply missed by son, Tom; daughter, Dorie and son-in-law, Andrew; grandchildren, Rebecca, Andy, Daniel, Anneliese, Charlie, Elizabeth, Madeleine, Matt and Abby; and many relatives and friends.
Ed is preceded in death by wife, Frances; infant son and son, James; grandson, Benjamin; siblings, Alphonse, Roman, Rosemary, Bernice and Richard. Pall bearers for Ed will be Tom Pohlmann, Andy Vogel and Matt Vogel
