Ed’s Life Story

Fonnier, Edward Bernard; 95 of Shakopee
(born June 19, 1918 – died January 25, 2014).

Survived by wife, LoRaine (Tieben); children, Judy & Jim Case (Veronica, Jessica & Hans), Lorrie & Al DuBois (Mitchell, Rhona & Tony), Gwen & Dick Raduenz (Heidi, Jane, Greta & Lisa), Gaynor Aslakson & Russ Case (Eric, Ted & Katherine) and Eddie & Wendy (Anna & Laura); 32 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Jane Ruppert; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Preceded by parents: Susan Rose Mertz; Al and Delia Fonnier; family: Henry & Hazel Tieben, Bud & Barb Tieben, Ozzie Aslakson and Ray Ruppert; beloved pets: Misty and Louie.

Ed was an artist, a veteran, a grandfather, a father and a husband. A gifted sign painter/letterer by trade, Ed was a self-taught craftsman and raised a family on his talents. His service in WWII was spent in Scotland and in England, where he served in a fighter command as a parachute rigger. His sign painting talent was also in much demand while in the army; his work adorned many fighter planes that winged over Europe.

At his boyhood home in Shakopee, Ed, with LoRaine (married 72 years) created a warm and welcoming home for friends and family; there was always coffee in the pot, and pretzels in the jar.

Ed’s insatiable attention to detail and splash of flair showed evident in the pride he displayed in his trade, in the honor he held for his country and in the support he provided for his family. We will miss him!

A private gathering of family was held to celebrate Ed’s life.
