Emily’s life story

Emily Anne Kostik

At the youthful age of 7, Emily Anne Kostik left her family and was welcomed into Gods loving arms on Sunday morning, January 5, 2014, at her Prior Lake home. All of the services will be at the Church of St. Michael 16311 Duluth Avenue SE, Prior Lake. Family will greet guests on Thursday, January 9, from 4-8 pm and starting at 9:30 am on Friday. The Mass of the Angels will be on Friday, January 10 at 11 am. Father Virgil Petermeier, osc will preside, with the assistance from Deacon Dick Roy. Emily will be laid to rest at Credit River Cemetery, in Prior Lake, MN. Emily’s pallbearers are Alex Kostik, Julie Kubiszewski, Pete Pappas and Paul Breyen.

On the bright sunny day of June 1, 2006, at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN, Emily was born two weeks early, to the proud parents Christopher and Lisa (Kubiszewski) Kostik. A 6lb 6oz beaming blue eyed dark haired baby girl was the younger sister to Alex. From day one, Emily was always smiling and making everyone laugh. Alex and she had a very special relationship. He was her protector, loved her dearly and were best of friends.

As a family, every year they spent a week at Gull Lake. Emily enjoyed the lake, water skiing and most of all being with her family, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was proud of her long hair, beautifully painted finger nails and the devotion to the colors purple, pink and red. Emily enjoyed watching videos and movies and cheering on the New York Yankees baseball team. She enjoyed shopping at the mall and indulging in a big soft pretzel.

A gifted little girl, Emily loved singing all types of music and knew every word to every song. Her favorite song was ‘Brighter Than the Sun.’ A love for dancing, she enjoyed ballet, tap and hip hop at Shana’s Dance. Emily relished the daddy-daughter dances the most. Creative in nature, she was a true and amazing artist. Emily loved painting rocks, coloring or painting with water colors. Her dream was to one day be an artist and own a rock company, where each rock would be painted in a special way, for someone special. On Saturday mornings, Emily and her dad enjoyed attending the Home Depot Kids Workshops.

Emily’s cancer journey was 1 year, 9 months and 20 days. She took this journey on as a way to meet new friends. Emily never complained, nor asked why. Chris and Lisa believe she was an angel sent by God to teach us a lesson. Emily had this way of grabbing you in a unique way and making you feel special.

A second grader at St. Michael Catholic School, Emily loved school, the teachers and especially making friends. Everyone was her friend. In her absence at school, her chair was never empty. “Emily II,” a monkey with a big smile was there in her place, experiencing the day and usually was causing some sort of trouble, while “Emily III” was at home comforting her. As a kindergartner, Emily received a special gift from the Make a Wish Foundation. A trip for the family to Walt Disney World gave her the opportunity to see all the princesses, especially Rapunzel.

In the comforts of her home, on Thursday, January 2, 2014, Mass was celebrated by Father Tom Sieg. Within this Mass, Emily received her First Holy Communion and Confirmation, with her family at her side. Emily’s Confirmation Sponsor was a dear friend from Give Kids the World, Peter Pappas.

Emily will always be remembered for being brighter than the sun, her big smile and a lovable personality. She is deeply missed by parents, Chris and Lisa; brother, Alex; grandparents, David and Jane Kostik of Richfield, Ron and Colleen Kubiszewski of Prior Lake; great-grandma, Myra Frenz of Richfield, Marge Delbow of Shakopee, Betty Kubiszewski of Porter; aunts, uncles, cousins and devoted friends.

Emily is preceded in death by great-grandparents, Paul and Anne Kostik, George Frenz, Edward Delbow and Paul Kubiszewski.
