On February 13, 1925, Ethel Theresa Meuwissen was born to parents John & Mary Meuwissen. She was the fourth of nine children and loved growing up in Chaska. Ethel attended Guardian Angels Catholic School. Following her schooling, she began working as an operator at the local telephone company. It was there that she met the love of her life, Frank F. (Pat) Schneider.
They quickly fell in love and exchanged wedding vows at Guardian Angels Catholic Church on June 9, 1962. They eventually settled in Shakopee where Ethel remained for the rest of her life. Their marriage was blessed with many happy years and two sons, John and Jim.
In her free time, Ethel loved to garden. She kept beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. Ethel was always generous with her time and volunteered at many different places with one of her favorites being BINGO at Friendship Manor. Ethel was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the St. Francis Auxiliary and the Daughters of Isabella in Chaska. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune every night and discussing the show with her sister. Another past time of Ethel’s was listening to KCHK Radio and reading the Coffee News in the Shakopee paper every week.
Although she had many hobbies and interests, the most important things in Ethel’s life were her family and faith. She was a very devout catholic and attended church nearly every day. Her strong faith guided her through life. She believed in forging strong relationships and keeping in touch with those you love. She sent out holiday cards every year and never missed a chance to send a birthday card with a few dimes taped to the inside. Ethel was a good grandma and loved her grandkids, Tyler, Korri and Zach.
Ethel was a thoughtful, caring and strong-willed woman. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind or share an opinion. She now lives on in the hearts of her family. Ethel is survived by her sons, John (Veronica Behlke) Schneider and Jim (Tracey) Schneider; grandchildren, Zach Schneider, Tyler Schneider, Korri Schneider and Michael Behlke; siblings, Jim (Darlene) Meuwissen and Leon Meuwissen; many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Ethel was greeted in Heaven by her husband, Frank “Pat” Schneider; parents, John & Mary Meuwissen; siblings, Richard (Nelma) Meuwissen, Eugene (Rose) Meuwissen, Jerome (Rosalia) Meuwissen, Vince (Dorris) Meuwissen, Benice (Ann) Meuwissen and Mary Ann (Eugene) Kurvers.
The Schneider family would like to extend a huge thanks to the staff at Friendship Manor for the great care Ethel received for the 2 1/2 years she was there.
