Faye Borchardt, of Jordan, passed away October 2, 2018 at the age of 91. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM with visitation one-hour prior at Zion United Methodist Church in Lydia. Pastor Larry Kasten will preside, and Faye’s grandchildren will act as urn bearers. She will be laid to rest at Concord Hill Cemetery in Lydia.
On October 4, 1926, Faye was born to parents Iris & Edna Kelton. Faye was the middle of three children, and she loved growing up in Texas with her brothers, Waylon and Jack. Growing up during the Great Depression wasn’t easy, but Faye learned the importance of helping those in need. Faye’s mother would prepare meals for the hungry and homeless. This instilled in Faye the importance of generosity and helping those in need.
When Faye was a teenager, her family lived near the Army base in Abilene. There were lots of young soldiers around, and one soldier caught Faye’s eye; his name was Walter Borchardt. Faye and Wally hit it off immediately. After just two months of dating, Wally promised that when he returned from overseas, he would marry Faye. Wally was true to his word, and the couple exchanged wedding vows just two weeks after he was discharged.
Faye moved to Minnesota with Wally, and they settled in rural Jordan. Minnesota quickly became home for Faye, but it took a few years for her to get used to the cold winters. A few years after they were married, Wally & Faye started a family. Their marriage was blessed with three wonderful children, Glenn, Bonnie & Sandy. As a family, the Borchardts enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. Every summer they would take a family trip back to Texas to spend time with Faye’s parents, brothers and her extended family.
When her kids were small, Faye stayed at home. She did the bookkeeping for their family’s sanitation business, but spent most of her time being a devoted wife and mother. After Wally & Faye sold Twin Lakes Sanitation, Faye began looking for work outside the home. She had always been a wonderful cook and baker, so she put her talents to good use and got a job as a cook at the Masonic Home. She later worked as a supervisor at Ebenezer in Burnsville, but eventually ended up back at the Masonic Home before retiring in the 1980’s.
In retirement, Faye kept busy. She was always cooking something up and frequently did grocery store demos. She volunteered her time with the CAP Agency preparing Meals on Wheels for the local community. Faye was also a member of the Eastern Stars, VFW Woman’s Auxiliary and the Good Cheer Ladies. She was active in her church and especially loved the over 50’s group. Faye never missed a Christmas party, and she always managed to find her way onto Santa’s lap.
Throughout her life Faye had many struggles, but the most difficult thing for her was losing her son, Glenn and husband, Wally. Luckily for Faye, she had a strong faith that got her through those difficult times. Faye was a generous woman. She was hard-working, faithful and dependable. Faye did everything “by the book”, and she made sure her family did the same.
She will be remembered always by her daughters, Bonnie (Larry) Eiden, Sandy Grenell; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; other loving relatives & friends. Faye is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Borchard;, son, Glenn Borchardt; parents, Edna & Iris Kelton; great-granddaughter, Christina Wallace; brothers, Waylon (Mildred) Kelton & Jack (Mabel) Kelton; nephew, Charles Kelton.
