Frederick “Fred, Rick or Teach ” A. Hanson
A resident of Prior Lake, Fred, age 76, passed away due to complications from chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer, on Easter Sunday morning, April 20, 2014, at Augustana Health Care Center, in Apple Valley, MN. He was in the company of his son Marty and Daughter-in-law Barb. The Celebration of Life Service will be on Thursday, May 15 at 5 pm, with visitation two hours prior, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake. Life Tribute Specialist Jean Breeggemann will lead the service.
Gracing this world on May 25, 1937 in Rice Lake, WI, Fred was born to parents Algot and Jean (Anderson) Hanson. The oldest of two children, he was raised in Hayward, WI, where Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing, with his father and brother and friends. He was also active in various high school sports.
Graduating from Hayward High School in 1955, Fred furthered his education at Minnesota State University Mankato in 1961, earning a bachelor’s degree in teaching. He taught school in Nevada, Iowa and Minneapolis before retiring in 1990.
On August 19, 1961, Fred married Madeline “Maddie” Deal, at Lake Harriet Methodist Church in Minneapolis, MN. They were blessed with a son, Marty.
Fred enjoyed spending time at his son’s lake home in Hayward, and visiting classmates there. He also attended AA group meetings regularly and enjoyed the relationships developed from the group. Fred enjoyed college basketball specifically the Minnesota Gophers, and Wisconsin Badgers, and football and baseball. He loved old cars and his dog “Reba”.
Left to honor his life and mourn the death is his son, Marty (Barb) Hanson of Prior Lake and Hayward, WI; brother, Jim (Mary) Hanson of New Brighton; nephews, Scott and Eric Hanson; other loving relatives and devoted friends.
Preceded in death and there to welcome Fred home, his wife, Maddie and parents, Algot and Jean.
The family specially thanks his friends in Prior Lake and Hayward for their support during his battle with cancer.
