Gary A. Hasch, age 79, of Prior Lake, MN, passed peacefully Thursday, June 2, 2022, while surrounded by his family. Gary lived a simple, yet full life. He never wavered from his faith, family, and love of fishing!
A celebration of life will be held for Gary on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM with a time of gathering from 9;00-10:45 am, at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, 3611 North Berens Road NW, Prior Lake. Pastor Laila Barr will preside.
Gary Arthur was born May 23, 1943, in Tyler, MN, to Arthur and Ruth (Scholten) Hasch. He grew up on the family farm, where his family’s love for hunting and fishing instilled a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Gary attended a one-room country school through the 7 th Grade, before graduating from Pipestone High School in 1961.
Gary spent most of his career working for Northwestern Bell (now known as Century Link) for 35 plus years as a lineman. He was very dedicated and proud of his work. One of Gary’s greatest claims to fame was installing all the payphones at the Mall of America, when it was built. He retired in his late 50’s.
While in high school, Gary was introduced to Darlene Klingbile on a blind date. They started courting and on June 2, 1962, at Holland Presbyterian Church, in Holland, MN, Gary and Darlene were united in Holy Matrimony. They spent exactly 60 years to the day raising their children, Michael, Michelle, and Monica and making many great memories together. With his family, Gary enjoyed camping trips—especially to Waterville and Mille Lacs to fish. They also traveled to California and every summer to Rapid City, as well to Pipestone, MN on weekends to visit family. After church on Sunday’s, the family gathered for a big breakfast and watch wrestling and western movies. In later years, Gary and Darlene enjoyed spending time during the winter in Hawaii with friends.
Throughout his life, Gary was an avid outdoorsman. His passion for hunting and fishing was shared with his family. Darlene never objected to him going hunting or fishing. This time away from each other built a stronger marriage and allowed Darlene to have special outings with her daughters! Gary was involved in the Jordan Trap Club with his son Michael. He spent countless hours in the garden tending to his vegetables and then in the kitchen preparing meals. Life was enriched for Gary when he became a grandpa. He passed on his love of hunting and fishing to the grandchildren too. Each one has fond memories with him, here in Minnesota and at The Hunter House in North Dakota.
Faith was very important to Gary. These values were instilled as a young boy and remained with him throughout life. Gary was very active in Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church for many decades. He made pheasant meals for the men’s bible study group “The Romeo’s.” Gary also prepared the food for the garage sale volunteers, for the craft fair and the church breakfast buffets.
Gary was larger than life and had no regrets! He always made sure his family had everything they needed. He was generous, kind, and always put others first. Gary was a big teddy bear. Though he struggled with this health in later years, Gary fought to the end, and his light and personality never faded. The Hasch house rocked with lots of love in his final days.
Forever loved, Gary will be missed by wife of 60 years, Darlene; children, Michael (Rhonda) Hasch, Michelle (Joerg) Feuchtinger, Monica Hasch; grandchildren, Tayla (Nik Finley) Hasch, Hannah Hasch, Devin Hoffman, Rachael Knoblauch, Braysen Knoblauch; step grandchildren, Angel Roesch, Sadie Roesch, Tristan Roesch; great-granddaughters, Nora Finley, Claire Finley, step great granddaughter, Lucy Roesch; siblings, Arnold (Mary) Hasch, Janet (George) Boeve, Dale (Joyce) Hasch; other relatives and friends. Greeting Gary in heaven are his parents, Arthur and Ruth; siblings, Myron (wives, Ronnie and Linda) Hasch, Barb (Del) DenBesten; infant brother, Dean, and niece, Jill DeVries.
