Gene’s life story
Eugene “Gene” Cleveland
Eugene “Gene” Cleveland was born on March 24, 1934 in Hornick, IA to parents, Leslie and Edna (Livermore) Cleveland. He was the middle child of five children.
He served his country in the Army from 1956 to1958 during which time he obtained his GED and became skilled in cable splicing and laying telecommunication cable. These skills led Gene to a 43 year career with Scott-Rice Telephone Company, now known as Integra.
Gene married Bonnie Mae Felderman on February 23, 1963 in Shakopee, MN. They were blessed with three children, Stacy, Penny and Nikki.
He was an avid deer hunter, who occasionally would hunt pheasants, turkey and moose as well.
He was a life member of the Suburban Sportsman’s Club and member of the Prior Lake American Legion.
At the age of 79, Gene passed away peacefully in the presence of his daughter, in the afternoon hours of April 22, 2013 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Minneapolis. The family thanks the Minnesota Veteran’s Home, (Specifically Building 19-3), for the love and care he received these past years.
Forever loved, Gene will be deeply missed by his wife, Bonnie; daughters, Stacy (Don Scheuerman) Cleveland of Leesburg, VA, Penny Cleveland of Prior Lake, Nikki Cleveland of Prior Lake; granddaughters Kristin (John) Terrill, Delaney Scheuerman and Carson Scheuerman; sister, Mary; and several other nephews and nieces in Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Edna Cleveland; brothers, Warren Cleveland, Norman Cleveland and Richard Cleveland.
Gene’s pall bearers will be Lenny Gephart, Don Scheuerman, John Terrill, Mark Borchardt, Mike Maxwell, Joe Kane.
The Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Prior Lake with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. all at church. Pastor John Vaughn will officiate. Gene will be laid to rest at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Prior Lake. Full military honors will be provided by the Prior Lake Veteran Honor Guard.
The Cleveland family is served with honor, care and compassion by Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation Services, Prior Lake Chapel.
