Genece Inez Lunn

Following a courageous battle with liver disease, Genece Inez Lunn, in the presence of her loving husband and children, peacefully entered the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on September 4, 2014. Genece, a resident of Savage MN, was 72 years old.

A Visitation will be held on Friday September 12 at Shepard of the Lake Lutheran Church in Prior Lake MN from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service. Her grandchildren will be the urnbearers.

Genece was born on May 5, 1942 in Worthington, MN. She was the first of three children born to parents, Oscar and Lillian (Reno) Thoresen. As a child, she enjoyed visiting her Aunt Elva’s boarding house and exploring the large home with her sister Gaylyn. A good academic student, Genece graduated from Worthington High School in 1960.

After high school, she attended Worthington Community College (1960-62) and Winona State University (1962-64) earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Her first job was in Wykoff, MN teaching science and math to 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Genece spent many years in the Jackson Public Schools working with students in the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program. She ultimately retired as a Special Needs Tutor from Jackson Public Schools in the late 90’s.

Genece met her husband Garey while attending classes at Worthington Community College. They married on June 14, 1964 in Worthington, MN. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Genece loved being a Grandma. She took pride in watching her grandchildren learn and grow. She especially treasured the time spent with her grandchildren as babies, holding and rocking them to sleep.

Genece enjoyed spending time at the cabin baking cookies, watching the birds and looking out over the lake. She had a fondness for hummingbirds, eagles, cardinals and gold finches. Genece and Garey shared many adventures together traveling, hunting for antiques, and searching for the ultimate tasty treat. Genece enjoyed crocheting and knitting blankets and scarves to give to family.

Genece never lost her love of learning. She liked playing cards, dominos, Sudoku and Jeopardy. She was a ferrous reader and always had a book close by. Genece had a life long love of music and was an avid Rod Stewart and Elvis Fan.
