On August 20, 1942 Delmer and Mae (Markuson) Gusse welcomed their son, Gerald Delmer Gusse. Gerald was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, MN.

Raised on the farm in rural Webster, MN., Gerald was the only child for 12 years, until his sister Mary joined him. He attended a one room school house in Webster until sixth grade and then attended Northfield high school. In his youth he was active in the Walther League at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster. Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing, horse back riding and various sports activities. He played many years of baseball for the Webster town team.

In the early 70’s he met Marion Beutler at the Schlief’s Little City Ballroom in Mendota Heights. After dating, they were united in marriage on February 16, 1974 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Prior Lake. They resided all of their years together in the Bloomington/Richfield area.

Gerald enjoyed ice fishing, gardening, watching sports and in later years he enjoyed bird watching and cooking shows. Family traditions and gathering were extremely important to him- he loved his family. He enjoyed being involved with the kids activities and continued to be one of their biggest fans as they got older.

In his younger years, Gerald drove truck for the Webster farm elevator. He then worked for Carl Bolander and Sons Construction as a laborer. He continued his laborer position working at Portec Pioneer Division and later returned to Carl Bolander and Sons as a construction worker/labor foreman up until his retirement. During his career, he worked on many projects in the Twin City area, including the IDS Tower, Walker Art Center and the Lawson Software Tower.

Gerald will be loved and forever missed by his wife of 37 years, Marion, children, Kevin (Julia) Gusse of Maricopa, AZ., Paula (Brian) Hines of Spirit Lake, IA., Valerie (Chris Prentice) Gusse of Shakopee, David and fiance Hanna Hubbard of St. Paul, grandchildren, Gabriella, Jordan, Andy, Jack, Ben, Dylan, sister, Mary (Randy) Quast of Chaska and brother in law Cedric Beutler of Prior Lake.

Gerald was precede in death by parents Delmer and Mae Gusse.

Visitation will be Tuesday 4:00-7:00 pm at Ballard Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake. Visitation also Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 am with celebration of life service at 11:00 am at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Bloomington. Reverend Phil Bickel will officiate. Gerald will be laid to rest at St. Paul’s Lutheran cemetery in Prior Lake.

Pallbearers are John Mingo, Eric Beutler, Robert Beutler, John Larson, Jim Markuson, Marty Morris. Honorary pallbearers are Amy Quast and Aaron Quast.
