Gerald “Jerry” Allen Popp, age 79, of Shakopee, MN, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 12 PM, with a time of gathering from 10 – 11:45 AM, all at The Parish of Saints Joachim and Anne (Church of St Mark), 350 Atwood Street, Shakopee, MN.

Jerry was born on September 21, 1944 to Albert and Teresa (Dwyer) Popp in Slayton, MN. He grew up in Fulda, MN. Growing up he was involved in the local Boy Scouts, worked many odds and ends jobs such as mowing lawns & harvesting hay, and often helped out at the Fulda Feed and Produce Store which was owned by his father. He attended Saint Gabriel’s Catholic School when he was young. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he worked as an orthopedic medic.

After he returned from the Air Force, he attended x-ray school at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. It was there he met the love of his life, Julie Florek. He married Julie on May 31, 1969. Together they enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, playing tricks on each other, and praying the rosary together every evening. Together they have four beautiful children.

Jerry worked at a variety of different places that included teaching at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, head of the x-ray department at St Francis Hospital & a lithotripsy technologist at Midwest Stone. In his free time, he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, wood working, watching any sports team, and spending time with his grandkids.

He was an active member at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Shakopee. He was involved in many different ways including a catholic sponsor, religion teacher, participated in bible study, Julifest, faith development, various committees, Knights of Columbus, and also took on the role of playing Pontius Pilot in the yearly passion play.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Kristin (Marvin) Breeggemann, Jennifer (James) Mullen, Patrick Popp, & Katherine (Weldon) Kettner; grandchildren, Charlie (Kylee) Breeggemann, Jacob & Owen Breeggemann, Taylor (John) Hilgers, Kendra and Colton Mullen, Collin Popp, & Calvin Weldon; great-grandchildren, Blakelee & Layton Breeggemann; siblings, Jim (Kyong) Popp, Margaret Popp, and John (Terry) Popp; and other loving relatives and friends.

Gerald is preceded in death by his two sons; and parents, Teresa and Albert Popp.
