Gerald "Jerry" Scherer

Gerald "Jerry" Scherer, of Remer, MN (formerly of Prior Lake, MN), passed away on December 5, 2024, at the age of 81. Jerry will be missed by all who love him. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 10-11 am, with brief closing words at 11 am, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake. Jerry will be laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Prior Lake.

Jerry was born to Eugene & Grace (Boehmer) Scherer on July 18, 1943. He grew up in Prior Lake and graduated from Prior Lake High School. Jerry was a proud member of the Army Reserves. 

As a young man, Jerry met the love of his life through a mutual friend. He and Rose fell in love quickly and exchanged wedding vows on June 11, 1977. The settled in Prior Lake to start their lives together. Their marriage was blessed with many happy years and a son, Scott.

Over the years, Jerry worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He owned trucks and hauled everything from lobster to hazardous waste. His work brought him all over the country. He visited all 50 states! In his free time, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his Scott.

In 2006, tragedy hit the Scherer family when Scott died suddenly in an accident. Jerry and Rose leaned on each other to get through this horrible time. Following Scott's death, Jerry retired. He and Rose left Prior Lake and moved up to Remer, MN to spend their retirement surrounded by nature.

After a long illness, Jerry passed away peacefully at his home on December 5, 2024. His loving wife was by his side.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rose Scherer; siblings, Willie (Donna) Scherer, Susie McNeal; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Jerry was greeted in Heaven by his son, Scott Scherer; parents, Eugene & Grace Scherer; brothers, Bob Scherer, Kenny Scherer, Ray Scherer; and brother-in-law, Jim E. McNeal.
