Harold “Harry” Marschall

Harold Ferd Marschall was born on March 22, 1925 on the family farm south of Shakopee, MN, to the parents of Math and Appolonia “Plonie” (Schneider) Marschall. The seventh of nine children, Harry graduated from St. Mark’s Catholic School and later from the Shakopee High School.

Drafted into the United States Army, Harry’s served in the Korean War from 1950-1952. Returning from the service, his brother Elmer and he purchased the farm from their father. Retiring in 1977 from the farm, Harry went into the real estate and the auctioneer business, until retiring a second time.

On October 17, 1972 at the Church of St. Mark, Harry exchanged wedding vows with Marie Weinzierl. Together they enjoyed traveling all 50 states and abroad.

An avid fisherman, Harry also loved to hunt. His hobbies included playing cards, reading, writing poetry and woodworking. An active and lifetime member of the Church of St. Mark, Shakopee American Legion Post #2, D.A.V., Shakopee Knights of Columbus #1685, Catholic Aid Association, Harry was also a volunteer for Shakopee Veterans Honor Guard, Meals on Wheels, Loaves and Fishes and the O’Dowd’s Lake Association.

Remembered for his humor, generosity and wit, at the age of 86 and a resident of Shakopee, Harry passed away peacefully the evening hours of Monday, March 5, 2012 at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Shakopee, MN.

Forever loved, Harry will be deeply missed by his wife of 39 years, Marie; sister, Dolores Wilbert; brothers-in-law, John Votca, Jim Baer; many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends. Harry is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Adeline (Francis) Hartl, Frances (Jean) Johnson, Irene (Henry) Dimler, Sally (Don) Trutnau, Charlotte Votca, Carol Baer; brother, Elmer (Kathryn) Marschall; brother-in-law, George Wilbert.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior all at the Church of St. Mark 350 S. Atwood St, Shakopee MN. Father Peter Wittman will officiate. Harry will be laid to rest at the Shakopee Catholic Cemetery in Shakopee, with full military honors provided by the Shakopee Veterans Honor Guard.
