Jackie Bombeck was 66 years of age, when she passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at St Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee, MN. She was a longtime resident of Prior Lake, MN
A time of gathering honoring Jackie will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (4565 Pleasant Street SE) in Prior Lake.
On April 2, 1952 in Pennsylvania, Jacquelyn Yvonne was born. She married Gary Bombeck on November 8, 1969 and had a small ceremony officiated by a local farmer. They were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, named Eileen. This birth was extra special to Jackie, for they shared the same birthday. The first few years, the Bombeck’s lived in the Twin Cities area, before building a home in 1977 in Prior Lake. As a family, they enjoyed packing up the pickup camper and off the Bombeck’s went camping. Jackie, Gary and Eileen also enjoyed boating and traveling to California to visit family. After 16 years of marriage, Jackie and Gary parted ways, but remained focused on raising their daughter and staying close friends.
Most of Jackie’s career was spent driving bus. She loved the interactions with people and was very good at her job. Jackie became proud as Eileen and her granddaughter Jessica followed in her footsteps as drivers too. Jackie also worked as a landscaper for Chapman & Torborg. She was a quite a worker and knew her trade well.
Later in life, Jackie met Ken Torborg. Over time a strong friendship was formed and the two of them have been each other’s companion for many years. Jackie and Ken had many great adventures together. As a couple, they relished volunteering on Christmas Eve serving hot drinks to the patrons at the Prior Lake VFW. Jackie was also a longtime member of the VFW’s Women’s Auxiliary.
In her spare time, Jackie and Eileen spent countless hours canning. She relished spending time with her granddaughters Taylor and Jessica. Jackie always had a special place in her heart for big dogs, of Husky’s and German Shepherds.
Jackie was always straight forward with her words and thoughts. She was always quiet about her beliefs in God, but this all changed just moments before her passing. Jackie was never baptized, but with the help of a friend, she was baptized into the Christian faith and within a few brief moments, Jackie rested peacefully in the arms of God.
Forever missed and loved by daughter, Eileen (Keith) Travers and her father, Gary Bombeck; granddaughter, Taylor Reich, Jessica Reich; companion, Ken Torborg; other relatives and friends.
There to welcome Jackie home are her parents and other family members.
