James LeRoy Gorron, of Prior Lake, passed away January 12, 2018. Jim’s wishes were to be cremated, and there will be a Memorial Gathering on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (4565 Pleasant St. SE) in Prior Lake. Jim will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on January 18, 2018 at 11:30 AM (Assembly Area 2). Full military honors will be provided by Fort Snelling. Jim is survived by his wife, Sandra, brother, Larry; sister, Marsha; nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Laverne & Doris and his sister, Betty.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army from 1971 until he was honorably discharged in 1974. Jim was also a talented musician. He especially loved playing the banjo and holds a Guinness World Record for participating in a mass performance of Foggy Mountain Breakdown with more than 200 other banjo players. Jim also enjoyed working with his scroll saw and created many beautiful pieces over the years.
His family is grateful to Allina Health Hospice and the staff at St. Gertrude’s of Shakopee for their kind and loving care.
