Jean Marie Reuteler

Jean Marie Reuteler (Johnson), age 60, passed away peacefully on June 2nd, 2024, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on April 22nd, 1964, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Jean’s zest for life was evident from her early years. She traveled extensively during high school and even attended school in Italy. Her athleticism shined in high school through her participation in track and field, basketball and horseback riding.

In college, Jean found an exciting career in modeling while she continued her education at the University of Minnesota. She then embraced the most rewarding role of all: motherhood.

In matters of the heart, Jean first married Kurt Hornnes with whom she had two beautiful daughters, Jamie and Jessie. Later, through a mutual friend, she found love again with Matt Reuteler. They married at their home in Jordan, Minnesota on February 8th, 2014.

Together with Matt, Jean indulged her love for travel with memorable trips to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, among others. Jean cherished family vacations— especially those involving her children and grandchildren. The many trips out west to the mountains were truly adventurous. Closest to her heart, however, were visits to the family cabin on the Gunflint Trail. There, Jean loved to fish and enjoy the peace and beauty of the lake and wildflowers.

An accomplished knitter and canner—Jean was a multiple State Fair blue ribbon winner for her canned goods. She also had a passion for cooking that drew everyone to seek out her recipes, which she happily shared. Family members reached out from near and far for any and all cooking advice!

She will be remembered for her compassionate, loving and giving nature, complemented by a humorous and sassy spirit. Jean’s presence was as comforting as it was invigorating. From a high fashion model, to an avid outdoorsman with a fishing pole or hunting knife in hand, Jean always kept you guessing.

She leaves behind a loving family: husband Matt Reuteler; daughters Jamie Appelhof (Blake) and Jessie Bohn (Jeff); grandchildren Ayden, Oliver and Easton Appelhof; sisters Beth Hudson and Julie Sexson; and parents Dale and Jan Johnson.

Jean’s legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched with her wild yet caring spirit. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Jean’s life will be held on Friday, June 21st, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edina, MN. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the service at 10:30 AM.

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers. The family will make a group donation to the Children’s Hospital of Minneapolis, an organization dear to Jean’s heart.
