Jean Helen Newman

Jean Helen Newman, aged 93, of Shakopee, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024.

A Liturgy of the Word will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 11AM, with a time of gathering from 10-11AM, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation, 833 Marschall Rd, Shakopee, MN. Jean will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Jean was born on March 9, 1930 in Fort Frances, Ontario Canada, one of many children to her parents. Growing up, Jean liked to go to different shows with her sisters and help her mom in the garden.

When Jean was 18, she moved to the United States and married her husband Joseph in International Falls, Minnesota. Together they had 7 children. When her children were growing up they moved from International Falls to Minneapolis and eventually settled in Jordan.

During Jean’s working years she worked primarily as a nurse and soon after housekeeping. She retired from her housekeeping work at the age of 65, leaving more time to spend with her grandkids.

Her greatest passion was when she became a grandmother. Jean could always be found at her grandkids school functions, graduations, and birthday parties. When she wasn’t at her grandkids events, she was with her husband playing bingo at Mystic Lake Casino, or out thrifting!

Jean will be forever missed by her children, Thomas Newman, Patricia (WIlliam) Perkins, Joseph Newman, Tim (Janet) Newman, Deanna (Mark) Amundson; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; daughters, Marie and Kelly; grandsons, Michael and Andrew.
