Jean W. Crumlett

Jean Crumlett, of Jordan, formerly of Richfield and Eden Prairie, passed away November 29, 2019 at the age of 93. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM with memorial gathering one-hour prior at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan. Rev. Jeremy Glowicki will preside. Jean will be laid to rest at Dawn Valley Cemetery during a private family interment.

On November 7, 1926, Ray & Ada (Posz) Sawyer celebrated the birth of their daughter, Jean Winifred Sawyer. She was one of three children and enjoyed growing up in Revere with her brothers, James and Robert. As a girl, Jean was very active. She helped with chores on the family home, enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was exceedingly athletic.

Jean was confirmed at the Revere Lutheran Church. As a young girl, she developed a strong faith. Jean graduated from Lamberton High School in 1944 and continued her education at the University of Minnesota. She initially pursued nursing, but her brother convinced her to switch to the dental program. Jean completed her degree in dental hygiene in 1947. She worked as a hygienist in Little Falls, New Ulm and St. Louis Park.

While at the U of M, Jean met the love of her life, Curtis Crumlett. The two were married on December 26, 1951. This union was blessed with many happy years and two wonderful children, Brett and Mary. They settled in Richfield to start a family, and Jean then focused her time on being a wife and mother. She was a wonderful homemaker and had a talent for sewing, cooking and gardening. Jean and Mary kept beautiful wildflower gardens. They also grew vegetables and canned much of their homegrown produce.

Throughout her life, Jean had a wide variety of interests including baking, canning, candy making, playing cards, sewing, gardening and fishing. Jean loved dogs, the MN Vikings, and playing classical piano. Family and faith were always the most important things in her life. In 2007, Jean moved to Jordan with her children. They made wonderful friends in the community and joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Jean always enjoyed her visits from Pastor Glowicki, and she was even able to receive communion shortly before her death.

Jean will be remembered always for her fearlessness. She was a woman of many talents and had a strong faith. Jean was very hard working and had a kind heart. Jean was a wonderful wife and a loving mother. Brett and Mary feel so blessed to have had her for a mother and to have many treasured memories of her.

She is survived by her children, Brett Crumlett and Mary Crumlett; other loving relatives & dear friends. Jean was greeted in Heaven by her husband, Curtis Crumlett; parents, Ray & Ada Sawyer; brothers, Dr. James Sawyer and Robert Sawyer.
