Jeanne Rita Nitz was born on December 21, 1922 in Belle Plaine to parents Julius and Edna (Hanson) Effertz. She was the youngest of 4 children. Jeanne’s childhood years were spent in Belle Plaine, graduating from Belle Plaine High School in 1940.
She attended the Minnesota School of Business and worked in the Minneapolis area. She married her high school sweetheart, Clayton Nitz on February 10, 1945 in St. Louis Park. She then went with Clayton to Seattle and Oakland while he was serving in the Coast Guard. Jeanne and Clayton eventually settled back in Belle Plaine while he ran Cub’s Bar.
They were blessed with four children: Pamela, Kristine, James and Maribeth.
Jeanne enjoyed antiquing, knitting, reading, and playing cards. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of Friends of the Library, and a March of Dimes volunteer. When her children were older, Jeanne started working outside the home, ending her career as an executive secretary at Gelco. Jeanne and Clayton enjoyed traveling together. In 1985, Jeanne and Clayton purchased a cabin on Roy Lake near Nisswa where they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends.
At the age of 90 and a resident of the Gardens in Shakopee, Jeanne passed away surrounded by her family on the morning of January 16, 2013.
