On February 12, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN, Jeanne Mary was born to parents John and Mona (Breaske) Collins. She was the oldest of three children. Growing up in South Minneapolis, near Lake Harriet, Jeanne loved to swim and hang out with her siblings and friends, at the lake. As a family, they enjoyed visiting family in Wadena and spending time at the cabin on Lake Fremont in Zimmerman and later in Menahga. Jeanne graduated from Holy Angels High School in 1958.
Jeanne started her career with Northwest Airlines, in 1964. First in reservations, Jeanne helped managed the Southdale ticket office and finished out her years at the main airport helping people make reservations. Jeanne retired in 1999, after 45 years.
In 1966, Jeanne was introduced to John Sunder, who was standing up in her sister’s Kathy wedding. Through the years, they remained friends, until later years, when they started dating. On October 15, 1982, Jeanne and John exchanged wedding vows, at the Church of St. Mark in Shakopee, MN. Together, they treasured the times spent, at their cabin on Little Mantrap Lake in Park Rapids. Settling their roots in Shakopee, they later built a new house in 1990, where they spent the rest of their days, as husband and wife. But on October 25, 2004, Jeanne lost the love of her life, after only 22 years of marriage, when John passed away.
Jeanne had a real passion for shopping. She was always looking for those bargains. Several times a year, Jeanne would be in search of special items to fill up baskets or buy school supplies for the needy, in the community. She had this special giving personality and was always there when you needed her most. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and helped making candy with a friend.
Family was most important to her. Even though she never had any children, Jeanne relished being an aunt. She loved being a part of their lives. Jeanne had a kind heart and was very dedicated to her faith. All through her cancer journey, she had this strong will to fight. Just four days before she passed, her family and staff were around her, as she turned 74 years old.
Deeply missed and remembered always by those who loved Jeanne, sister, Kathy (Gordie) Vomacka of Prior Lake; brother, Tim (Diane) Collins of Prior Lake; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, John and parents, John and Mona.
Casket bearers for Jeanne will be Scott Vomacka, Jamie Vomacka, Brian Collins, Kelly Collins, Kevin Ludke and Michael Ludke.
