John "Slugg0" Nygaard

John Nygaard, of Jordan, passed away much too soon on October 17, 2024, at the age of 66. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by so many. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 1:00 – 5:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (104 First Street West) in Jordan. 

On February 15, 1958, John Kevin Nygaard was the second of four children born to Clyde and LaVerne (Olson) Nygaard. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Edison High School in 1976.

Following high school, John attended the University of Minnesota. He eventually earned his Associate’s Degree and began working as a computer programmer. John was always a hard worker. He had a long career in IT working for companies like Gelco and Park Nicollet before retiring from the industry.

As a young man, John met a woman named Barbara at a Halloween party. They quickly fell in love and were married 6 months later. John was now a dad to Barb’s daughter Kristine and they soon expanded their family with the birth of Rochelle. John loved his daughters and always worked hard to provide a good life for them. As a family they enjoyed camping and went on a few family road trips over the years. Eventually John and Barb went their separate ways, but always remained dedicated to their girls. 

In retirement, John got to do what he loved most… spend time with his family. He absolutely LOVED being a grandpa. John taught many of his grandkids how to drive. He was patient, kind and a great teacher. He was even willing to take responsibility for any mishaps behind the wheel while the kids were learning.

John bought guns for his grandkids. He was so proud of their involvement in the Trap Shooting Clubs at school, and he always made sure they had the best gun to use. John was so generous. 

He was a supportive, loving and kind man. He was very friendly and could talk your ear off about any topic. He had a great sense of humor and was truly one of a kind. John will be missed by his family and friends.

John is survived by daughters, Kristine (Kyle) Callan and Rochelle Nygaard; grandkids, Amy (Tyler), Zachary, Randii (Jeydin), Landin, Irelyn; great-grandkids, Isabella, McKenzie, Tytus, Thor, Tucker John, Dominick and Ava; ex-wife, Barb Nygaard; siblings, Laurel (Steve) Bluhm, Curt Nygaard and Dana Nygaard; cousin and best friend, Scott Ford; other loving relatives and friends. John is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde & LaVerne Nygaard.
