Joyce’s life story

Joyce Loftus

In Los Angeles, California on November 30, 1930, Venus Joyce Loftus was born the only child to Frank and Frances Loftus. Graduating from Chaffee Hugh School in Ontario, CA, she then went to Chaffee Junior College for one and a half years.

Joyce worked all over the United States. Her first job was in LA at the Stanley Home Products. In 1953, Joyce took a trip across country to visits her dad’s relatives in Iowa and Minnesota and decided to stay. She then worked at National Bushing Auto Parts doing computer work, Stephens Buick and Northwestern Mortgage as a bookkeeper. Deciding to move to Fort Meyers, Joyce worked for an insurance company for one winter. Moving back to Minnesota, she secured a job with Standard Oil. In 1965, she started working for the John Deere Company and spent the next 20 years working in the warehouse parts department, scheduling orders to be picked up and shipped. In 1986, Joyce retired.

Over the years, Joyce met many great friends through the years. Darlene and Ruthie, but it was Phyllis and Joanne who became her lifelong friends and adopted family. For over 60 years, Joyce and Joanne were best of friends and roommates. First buying a house in Bloomington, until retiring, they later moved to Mesa for 10 years, and back to Bloomington and later to Shakopee. After the passing of Joanne, Joyce moved to McKenna Crossings Assisted Living in Prior Lake.

Being an only child, Joyce seemed to be always surrounded by her adopted families, Phyllis and Joanne’s families. After the passing of Phyllis, Joyce and Joanne took over the roles of mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to especially Phyllis’s daughter, Candy Peck’s family. She adored and treasured spending holidays, meals and any other occasion with the family.

In earlier years, Joyce enjoyed winters snowmobiling in the snow, with good friends Jan and Jim. A love for traveling, Joyce and Jo enjoyed travels to New England, FL, Branson, MO and Joanne’s family in Rush City, MN, which became her adopted home town. A talented seamstress, Joyce also enjoyed quilting, knitting and collecting Byers’ Choice Dolls. She was an avid reader, enjoyed shopping at Macy’s and Herbergers and dropping a few coins in the slot machines at Mystic Lake Casino. With a love for dogs, Joyce’s heart belonged to her beloved dog, Murphy.

The early evening of Thursday, October 3, 2013, Joyce, age 82, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, MN.

Deeply missed and remembered always by those who loved Joyce, several cousins: special loving extended family; Candy and John Peck; extended grandchildren, John (Andrea) Peck, Jessica (Paul) Klose, Jared (Kristine) Peck, Jill Peck; extended great-grandchildren, Ashley, Breanna, Kyler, Kaylee, Joey, Addison, Aubrey Joanne; and other devoted friends.

Joyce is once again now sitting around the table in heaven drinking coffee, with her parents and many wonderful friends.
