Joyce Mohrenweiser

Joyce Mohrenweiser of Prior Lake (formerly of Minnetonka) passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, January 12, 2015 at the age of 84. A Celebration of Life Service is Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 10:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at the McKenna Crossing Chapel, 13810 Shepherds Path NW, Prior Lake. Lindsey Ballard will preside.

It was a beautiful fall day on October 13, 1930 when Irl and Louella Hoffman celebrated the birth of their daughter, Joyce Marie. She was one of three girls, and Joyce loved growing up with her sisters, Betty and Mina in Mora. Joyce attended and graduated from Mora High School. She later pursued a degree in Mathematics and Education.

It was in high school that she met the love of her life, Warren Mohrenweiser. They dated all throughout school, and on June 21, 1952 Joyce married her high school sweetheart at Zion Lutheran Church in Mora, MN.

After getting married, Joyce and Ronald lived in Richfield, and Joyce taught Mathematics and German in the Richfield School District until they were ready to start a family. They were blessed with a wonderful daughter, Carole. Joyce retired from teaching and became a homemaker. She loved being at home and caring for her family, and they later moved to Minnetonka where they lived for 47 years.

Joyce was so thrilled when she became a grandma. She made sure that she got to spend one day per week with her grandson, Ross. She treasured this time with him. About once per month she’d bring Ross into the office at General Mills where they’d have lunch with grandpa. Joyce and Warren loved spending time with Ross so much that they began taking yearly trips with him. They visited many places with some of their favorites being, Cape Cod, Colorado, Oregon, California and especially the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Warren and Joyce also did a lot of traveling just the two of them. They’d take a couple of road trips each year. They made it to nearly every state during these trips. They traveled together until 2009 when Joyce lost the love of her life. The last gift Warren gave Joyce was their new home at McKenna Crossing in Prior Lake. The community embraced Joyce, and she made so many wonderful, close friends at McKenna. She was very skilled at needle point and cross stitching. Joyce made many beautiful works of art over the years. One of her favorite projects was decorating a doll house with her daughter, Carole.

Joyce was a very generous-hearted woman who was willing to help anyone in need. She will be missed deeply and remembered always by her daughter, Carole (Steve) Fitzsimmons; grandson, Ross (Corey) Kotula; great-grandson, Cameron Kotula; sister, Mina Nystrom; other loving relatives and many dear friends. There to greet Joyce in Heaven is her husband, Warren Mohrenweiser; parents, Irl and Louella Hoffman; sister, Betty (Win) Haar; brother-in-law, Ken Nystrom.

The Mohrenweiser family is served with honor, care and compassion by Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation.
