Joyce’s Life Story

Joyce R. Bungert

Born on Sunday, July 9, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN, Joyce Ruth was the daughter to parents Ferdinand Michael and Dorthea Mary (Haeg) Bungert. She was the youngest of fifteen children. Joyce’s childhood years were spent growing up on a farm in Bloomington, MN. Joyce attended Assumption Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1962.

For 35 years, Joyce’s career was spent as an administrative assistant for Continental Machines. She was very active with the Pioneer Club of Continental Machines, where she headed up their bowling league and golf league. Joyce also worked as a bartender at the Prior Lake V.F.W. and at Freddie’s on the Lake. In her recent years, Joyce worked for Rick Garland at Midwest Reflections. She was a member of the Prior Lake Post #6208 V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.

An avid collector, Joyce had a special love for Santa Claus, clowns, Mickey Mouse and Minnesota Twins paraphernalia. She enjoyed playing games on the computer, watching the golf tournaments, the Hallmark Channel ,the Young and the Restless and drinking Mendota Spring Water. Red Lobster was Joyce’s favorite place to eat. She was very family orientated. Joyce kept them all together by leading them in bowling, golf, camping and going to Canterbury Downs.

A resident of Savage, formerly of Prior Lake, Joyce was 68 years young when she passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on the evening of Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. She will be truly missed by all and everyone will especially miss her Christmas lights that she displayed until February.

Forever loved, Joyce will be deeply missed by her siblings, Edward (Marcie) Bungert of Bloomington, Roy (Dorothy) Bungert of Sturgis, SD, Charles (Nancy) Bungert of Richfield, Joan (Jerry) Crawford of Isle, Dorothy (Bob) Gillim of Menlo Park, CA, Mary Jones of Oak Harbor, WA; sisters-in-laws, Clara Bungert of Bloomington, Rita Bungert of Lakeville, Marilyn Bungert of Bloomington, Loretta Bungert of Backus; lots of nieces, nephews and friends.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Cecil Bungert, Francis (Alice) Bungert, Denny Bungert, Bea (Gene) Melville, Norman Bungert, Albert Bungert, Donald Bungert and Carol Bungert.

Pall bearers for Joyce will be Duff Bungert, Lance Melville, David Ottinger, Paul Severson, Dale Segler and Bob Gillim. Honorary pall bearers Donna Williams, Lisa Gillim and Matthew Bungert.

The visitation will be on Thursday, August 30 from 4-7 pm, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake and one hour prior to the mass at church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, August 31 at 11 a.m., at the Church of St. Michael 16311 Duluth Ave SE, Prior Lake. Father Tom Sieg will officiate. Joyce will be laid to rest at a private family burial at Assumption Cemetery in Richfield.

Memorials are preferred and will be distributed in Joyce’s memory by the family.

The Bungert family is served with honor, care and compassion by Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake Chapel.
