Ken’s Life Story
Ken Hennen
On July 27, 1943 in Shakopee, MN, Kenneth Anthony was born to parents Mathias and Lucille (Menke) Hennen. He was the youngest of five children. Ken’s childhood years were spent in Marystown, with attending Marystown Catholic School through the sixth grade. He then attended and graduated from Guardian Angels High School in Chaska.
Most of Ken’s career was spent in construction. He attended Minneapolis School of Business and Dunwoody Institute where he earned a degree in Business and Carpentry. In his earlier years, Ken started to work for his brother, Victor Hennen Excavating and later for Lawrence Schwiech. In 1975, Ken went on his own, Ken Hennen Builders, until he retired and then worked part time for his nephew at Mid County Fabrication in Jordan.
Meeting the love of his life at Marlie and Betty Menke’s wedding, Joan Boegeman soon became the twinkle in his eye. They exchanged wedding vows on June 12, 1965 at the Church of St. Michael in Prior Lake. Ken and Joan were blessed with four children, Tony, Ted, Jill and Nikki.
For all of Ken’s life, family was his passion. As a husband, he enjoyed the quiet driving excursion with Joan. Most of their trips had no plan, but would enjoy an estate, auction or garage sale along the way. Their fondest and blessed vacation was to Ireland, with a stop in Germany. He coached and cheered on his boys in wrestling and baseball. Ken was a charter member of the Green Hornets and P.L.A.Y. In his free time, Ken enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He was a third degree member of the Savage/Prior Lake Knights of Columbus.
As the family’s rock, Ken taught many life lessons to many along the way. He was a handyman by trade and loved to play practical jokes and was very loyal to his family and friends. Ken deeply loved his wife, cherished his children and became a softy with his grandchildren.
A resident of Prior Lake, Ken Hennen was 69 years young, when he passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family the early morning of Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at his home.
Forever loved, Ken will be deeply missed by his wife of 47 years, Joan; children, Tony Hennen of Savage, Ted (Shannon) Hennen of Prior Lake, Jill (Todd) Boeser of Prior Lake, Nikki (Dave) Miller of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Savannah and Sydney Boeser, Lexi and Logan Hennen, Cameron and Eleanor Miller; brother, Victor Hennen of Shakopee; sisters, Alice Menden of Shakopee, Ruth Pass of Shakopee, Mary Joyce (Don) Klingberg of Prior Lake; many other loving relatives and friends.
