Kris’ life story
Kristine Ann Berg
Wilbert “Bill” and Merece (Hogberg) Gentz proudly announced the birth of their daughter, Kristine Ann on June 15, 1953 in Ellendale, North Dakota. She was the younger of two children. In 1959, Kris’s family moved to Prior Lake, MN. She enjoyed fishing and playing sports. As a family, they enjoyed exploring the wonders of the United States in a tent, with fond memories at the Grand Canyon, Arizona and Canada. While dad and mom set up camp, Greg and Kris’ job was to find the wood for the campfires.
A gifted student, Kris was a member of the student council and the National Honors Society. She graduated from Prior Lake High School in 1971 and furthered her education at Mankato State University.
Accepting a job as a file clerk for Stampings of Minnesota, Kris quickly became the general manager. For over 30 years, she was a dedicated and hard working employee. But most of all, Kris treasured the relationships created with her peers the most.
As a young woman, Kris excelled at playing sports, especially softball. Throughout her life, Kris stayed active, playing tennis, golfing and bowling. An exceptional pool player, Kris learned all her tricks from her dad. She was also an excellent cook, just like her mother, even winning a Betty Crocker award in high school. One of Kris’ biggest passions in life was spending countless hours in her boat, casting a line into the water. Her other passion was the love of animals, especially German Shepherds, Black Labs and Huskies. There was always a special place in Kris’ life for dogs.
With a love for traveling, Kris enjoyed the sunrises and sunset at her favorite spot in the Caribbean. Traveling there over 30 times, she enjoyed the warm weather, palm trees and the sandy beaches. Over the last many years, Kris has also enjoyed traveling to Isle Murjeres, Mexico, with her true companion, Lee Berg. This was their favorite spot. On October 26, 2012, Kris married Lee at their home. Her life was now complete. As a couple just about every morning and night they enjoyed playing a game of backgammon.
On the morning of Saturday, August 10, 2013, Kris passed peacefully at her home in Prior Lake at the young age of 60. She is now free of the pain from cancer. Kris was soft spoken, with a loving and generous personality.
Deeply missed and remembered always by those who loved Kris, devoted husband, Lee; loving mother, Merece Gentz of Prior Lake; caring brother, Greg (Lynda) Gentz of Chaska; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and her dog, Lola. Kris was greeted in heaven by her father, Bill, whom she was very close too and all her dogs, especially Kirby.
The Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, August 17 at 12:30 pm, with visitation starting at 11 AM all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake. Pastor James Fuchs will preside. Kris’ brother, Greg is honored to be the urn bearer.
