A fascination with planes, Leonard joined the Army Corp Reserves. He took flight training in Alexandra and ventured up to Hibbing to begin flying. A dream that finally came true. Leonard entered active duty in August 1943 until May 1945. He attended college at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio and graduated from the Minnesota Business School in 1949. On June 25, 1946, Leonard and Eleanor were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Villard, MN. They were blessed with five children, Larry, Stephen, Lonna, Sandra and Mary. Leonard’s greatest passion was being a husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. His family always remained foremost as did his integrity and honesty. Leonard’s children saw their father devoted to his faith and looked up to him as their mentor.
