Lloyd Ernest O’Connor was born on January 8, 1928 in Portland, Iowa to parents James and Emma (Wilhite) O’Connor. Lloyd’s childhood years were spent in Mason City, Iowa.
Most of Lloyd’s career was spent as a welder in the railroad. Lloyd married Barbara Keeling on November 5, 1945 in Oakland, California. They were blessed with three children, Suzie, Shayne and Kelley. Lloyd will always be remembered for his unconditional love in caring for his son Kelley, who ultimately died from cystic fibrosis.
Lloyd served in the United States Navy. He enjoyed painting (water color and oils), wood carving, ham-radio operating, playing just about any instrument and loved riding his bicycle.
Lloyd was a happy Irishman with an infectious smile who was loved by all.
At the age of 84 and a resident of Prior Lake, Lloyd entered God’s arms on the afternoon hours of Wednesday, January 18, 2012.
Forever loved, Lloyd will be deeply missed by his wife Barbara, children, Suzie (Peter) Gustafson of Prior Lake, Shayne O’Connor of Texas; grandchildren, Kirsten (Dave) Pressel, Korrey (Todd) Heinrich, Katie O’Connor; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis (Larold) Robinette and many other loving relatives and friends.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his son, Kelley O’Connor; parents, Jamesand Mildred (Wilhite) O’Connor; a brother and a sister.
Visitation will be Monday February 6, 2012 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. with service following at 11:00 a.m. all at the Church of St. Michael, Prior Lake. Lloyd will be presented with full military honors by the Fort Snelling honor guard. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National
Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
