Lorrin Kenneth Gullberg
A generous and loving husband and father, Lorrin loved his country and practical jokes. A 41 year resident of Prior Lake, Lorrin, age 86, passed away peaceful, surrounded by his loving family, the evening of Saturday, November 30, 2013, after a 13 year battle with cancer. The visitation will be on Wednesday, December 4, from 4-7 pm at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. The Celebration of Life Service will be on Thursday, December 5 at 10 am, ALL at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake. Life Tribute Specialist will be Lindsey Ballard. Lorrin will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, with full military honors, provided by the Fort Snelling Volunteer Rifle Squad.
Memorials are preferred and will be distributed in Lorrin’s memory by the family to the Masonic Cancer Center.

Born on September 25, 1927 in Brainerd, MN, Lorrin Kenneth was the son to parents, Nels Gullberg, a Swedish emigrant, and Ruth Lind, the youngest daughter of Swedish emigrants. He graduated from the Brainerd High School in 1945 and immediately began employment at the Brainerd Post Office as a clerk/carrier. In 1945 Lorrin’s postal career was interrupted with 18 months of military service with the Unites States Air Force.
In 1956, Lorrin was promoted to the position of Postal Inspector assigned to the Chicago Division. In this capacity, he handled both criminal and audit investigations. In 1970, Lorrin transferred to the St. Paul, Minnesota Division, with primary an audit assignment. At the height of his career, he was responsible for the audit programs in the States of Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Lorrin retired from the post office in 1975 and started his own private investigation service. In this capacity, he did contract investigation for Master Card, Visa, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Unites States Customs and various local attorneys. Lorrin fully retired in the 1990’s and then held several offices in the National of Retired Postal Inspectors.
Lorrin married his bride of 62 years, Marie Buchner on June 16, 1952 in Brainerd, MN, a marriage that produced two children, Joann and Richard. His extended family now includes five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Loved to make jokes about him, Lorrin every Christmas letter would contain a paragraph in which he poked fun at his decorum. Lorrin departed with strong feelings about life filled with joy, happiness due to a wonderful family and lots of wonderful friends. He was a member of the Prior Lake V.F.W Post #6208.
Deeply missed and remember always by those who loved Lorrin, wife of 62 years, Marie; daughter, JoAnn Goiffon of Shoreview; son, Ric Gullberg of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Bennett (Jackie) Goiffon, Reece Goiffon, Sarah (John) Gullberg-Hallas, Natalie (Justin Andersen) Gullberg, Courtney (Jacob Cannady) Christiansen; great-grandchildren, Braiden, Sierra, Sidney, Jon III, Tristan; other loving relatives and devoted friends.
Lorrin is preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Ruth Gullberg; brother, Robert (Mary) Gullberg. Urn bearers for Lorrin will be daughter and son.
The Gullberg family is served with honor, care and compassion by Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Prior Lake Chapel.
