Louis’ life story

Louis Wilmer Stier

On February 18, 1940 in Sand Creek Township, Louis Wilmer Stier was born to parents Wilmer August and Lela Bernice (Molkenbur) Stier. He was the oldest of six children. Louis’s childhood years were spent growing up first in Jordan, then Belle Plaine and finally settling the family’s roots in Shakopee. As a young boy, Louis loved catching any type of fish in the Minnesota River. In the winter, he and his buddies also enjoyed ice fishing and ice skating.

At the age of 17, Louis left school to join and proudly served in the United States Army. Stationed in Germany for two years, he was an expert pistol and rifle marksman in the Recon. Squad 15th Calvary. Louis also continued serving the Army in the reserves. Returning from Germany, Louis married a life-long friend, Elaine Hafemann on November 21, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, MN. They were blessed with five sons, Kevin, Terry, Louis, Dennis and Troy.

Louis’ first job was a mail carrier for the Unites States Postal Service. Louis and Elaine then managed the Shakopee American Legion Post #2, before he went on his own, building chicken and pole barns. Most of Louis’ career was spent in the manufacturing industry with companies of Theradyne, Kurt and later with Valor Manufacturing.

A love for the outdoors, Louis and his family enjoyed many weekends camping and fishing most recently spending time at the lake in their travel trailer, camping at Nevis and Clearwater. An avid Northern fisherman, Louis was also a talented archer. He enjoyed watching football and baseball. Louis and Elaine loved to travel, with the cruise to Alaska being the most precious. He spent countless hours sitting on the front porch watching the traffic go by.

One of Louis’ greatest accomplishments was earning his GED in 1973. The biggest passion was his family. He deeply loved his wife, relished being a father to his sons and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Even with a strong-willed personality and a funny sense of humor, Louis was a man of few words, with a deep love for his family. The early morning hours Monday, April 15, 2013, Louis was 73 years old, when he passed away peaceful with his wife at his side in their Jordan home.
