On November 19, 1922 Henry and Selma (Osterman) Hell celebrated the birth of their beautiful baby girl, Lucille. She was the youngest of four children and loved growing up in Henderson with her siblings, Gertrude, Ezra and Melvin. Lucille always had the heart of a caretaker. She had a pet cat named Felix that she took wonderful care of. As a child Lucille loved playing the piano and played for her church. She also taught Sunday School there. Lucille attended a small country school through 8 th grade.
After school, Lucille moved to Le Sueur where she lived in a boarding house and worked in the Green Giant canning factory. On her days off she enjoyed going to local dances with friends. At one of these dances she met the love of her life, Harold Mollenhauer. Soon after they met, Harold was called to serve his country. They exchanged letters while he was serving overseas. When he returned home they were married. Harold and Lucille exchanged wedding vows on December 16, 1945 at Centennial Lutheran Church in Henderson.
Together Lucille and Harold farmed land between Le Sueur and Henderson. They eventually bought their own dairy farm where they raised their children, Gerald and Marlene. Lucille took care of the house, made clothes for the children and did all of the cooking. She also helped with chores around the farm, grew vegetables and raised chickens. She truly did it all.
Lucille and Harold enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends. Lucille was an excellent cook. She loved having the family over for big turkey dinners. Lucille also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting. Over the years she made some really beautiful pieces that she’d give as gifts to family and friends.
In 1967 Lucille and Harold sold their farm and moved to Jordan. Harold worked for the state highway department, and Lucille started an in-home upholstery business. She was an excellent seamstress and was able to turn her talents into a full-time job. Once Harold and Lucille retired they spent winters in Arizona. They loved the warm weather and the many wonderful friends they made. Even after Harold died in 1995, Lucille continued wintering in Arizona. She also took many other road trips around the country. Lucille especially liked driving through the country side and visiting her daughter in Tennessee.
Lucille was the ultimate caregiver. She was a very kind lady who put everyone else before herself. Lucille was a wonderful mother, loving grandma and dear friend to many. She will be missed and remembered always by her children, Gerald (Lynn) Mollenhauer and Marlene (Arvey) Eeg; grandchildren, Serena (Grant) Schleusner and Dianna Mollenhauer; great-grandchildren, Carter and Sophia Schleusner; other loving relatives and friends. There to greet Lucille in Heaven is her husband, Harold C. Mollenhauer; parents, Henry and Selma Hell; siblings, Gertrude Harder, Ezra Hell and Melvin Hell.
