Perla was born on December 7, 1937 in Orion, Bataan, Philippines. Perla was the “ Ate”, the firstborn daughter of Emilio and Eufemia Baltazar. She described her own childhood as a fairy tale, cherished by her entire family.
Upon graduation from medical school at the University of Santo Tomas, Perla left the Philippines to complete her residency in the United States. The love of her life, Ramon Hizon, followed her to Long Branch, NJ in January 1964, and they married four months later. In 1972, the Hizon family moved to Wichita, Kansas , where Perla built a successful practice in p ediatrics. After retirement, she served several days a week at the Guadalupe Clinic in Wichita, offering free physicals and consultations to those who could not otherwise afford medical care.
Perla loved traveling, gardening, cooking, and most of all, entertaining at home. The annual Christmas party, the monthly gathering to pray the rosary, and more – nothing made her happier than putting on the perfect occasion, which included filling her guests to overflowing and then some.
Perla was preceded in death by her parents, Emilio and Eufemia, her brother Junior, her sister Fe, her father-in-law Sotero Hizon, and her loving husband Ramon.
Perla is survived by her children, Rob (Michele) Hizon of Arlington, VA, Terry Ann (Brenda Lee) Hizon of Las Vegas, NV, John (Michele) Hizon of Prior Lake, MN, grandchildren Kieran Hizon, Ben Hizon, Kate Hizon, her brother Bebot Baltazar, her mother-in-law Esperanza Hizon, and Ima Sabado, who cared for Ramon, Perla, and their family
