Lyle Marvin Holm, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health System, New Prague, MN. He was a long-time resident of Shakopee, MN.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 19, from 4-7 pm, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation, 833 S. Marschall Rd, Shakopee and one hour prior to the Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, September 20, at 10 am, at the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, 924 21 st St, Minneapolis, MN. Pastor Tim Peterson will preside. Lyle will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Pallbearers will be Tom Holm, Eric Holm, Mark Thomas, Jerry Buckner, Steve Holm, and Kim Holm.
On November 10, 1927, Lyle was born in Minneapolis, MN to parents, Harry and Signa (Haugen Eide) Holm. He was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. For many years, Lyle worked as a telephone technician for Northwestern Bell, US West and Qwest.
Lyle enlisted in the United States Navy on January 28, 1946 and proudly served during WWII and throughout the South China Sea and Panama. During his time, Lyle was aboard the USS Seacat 399 Submarine. Later, he became a member of the Submarine Veterans of WWII and Submarine Veterans Inc.
Lyle married Dorothy Healow, in Minneapolis, MN. He lived a very active life being a husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. Lyle loved traveling to Norway to connect with relatives—he was extremely proud of his heritage and member of Nordfjordlaget. In his free time, Lyle loved duck hunting, fishing and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings.
Lyle will remain in the hearts of his children, Gail Holm, Tom (Vicki) Holm, Jane (Mark) Thomas; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his other relatives and friends in the U.S. and Norway.
There to greet Lyle in Heaven is his wife, Dorothy Holm; son, Gerald Holm; parents, Harry and Signa; siblings, Margie (Marvin) Boyd and H. James (Evelyn) Holm.
The Holm family expresses a special thank you to Pastor Tim Peterson, Dr. Daniel Dunn, Queen of Peace Comfort Care and Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center for all their love, compassion and care for Lyle.
