Marcia had a deep faith in God. She lived each day teaching and sharing God’s message to family and friends. She was born to loving and hard working parents, Orvis and Georgiann (Johnson) Toquam. The first of four children, and twin to Mary, Marcia was born in Owatonna, MN and raised on the family farm in Claremont, MN. Her interests included spending time with her family, going to school, working on the farm with her Dad and riding her horse, Robbie.

After graduating from Claremont High School in 1969, Marcia started her education at Rochester Junior College before transferring her French and English degrees to the University of Minnesota. Marcia utilized her language skills to live abroad as an au pair in France as a young adult and maintained beloved and lifelong friendships with her French host family and other friends she made while traveling.

The greatest gift in Marcia’s life was being a wife and mother. She met Allan Tlougan in 1970 and they married on July 7, 1973, in Blooming Prairie, MN. The newlyweds settled in Minneapolis and began their life together. After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1974, she worked at Northwestern National Bank in the international department. In 1980, she turned her focus to raising and schooling her children, Benjamin, Dana, Stephen and Michelle. The Tlougan family moved to Prior Lake in 1994 where they invested in the community and got a little bit closer to the farm life Marcia always loved.

Marcia was a brave adventurer. Her favorite place to be was always outside and she spent countless hours swimming, walking and riding bikes. She loved singing, trying new foods, traveling, learning about history, dabbling in creative writing and talking with anybody (in her sweet quiet voice).

Marcia was a creative teacher. One of her greatest joys was found in teaching and creating a positive learning environment. Marcia used her many gifts to teach in a variety of settings: homeschooling her children, working in a private school, substitute teaching, and tutoring. She was a lifelong active learner and would always carry a bag of books just in case she had some time to read.

Marcia had a deep faith in God. She came to know the Lord through the Navigator’s Ministry in college and never looked back. She lived each day sharing God’s message everywhere she went. She actively pursued Christ through reading his word. She found great joy and comfort in scripture and sought to share that with others by writing down verses and handing them out on notecards as she was led by the Holy Spirit.

Marcia prayed like a true warrior. She kept a detailed prayer journal and often would pray for hours each day. She would pray fervently not only for those in her inner circle, but many others who crossed her path. For years she would take prayer walks to intercede with heaven on others behalf and spend time with Jesus.

She always had her extraordinary faith on display, sharing her love for Jesus, and generally helping anyone in need. She could often be found going out of her way to help people by volunteering at church and school, bringing homemade cinnamon rolls, watching someone’s children, offering a listening ear, and opening up her home.

In 2013, Marcia was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia, specifically Primary Progressive Aphasia, which targets speech. Despite a slow journey of more and more loss of speech and function, Marcia maintained her sweet spirit and fervent love for Jesus. She could still light up the room with her smile and enjoyed every moment with her family. Marcia’s faith showed through even when PPA started to rob her of her voice. For as long as she could, she continued to write or text encouraging words and bible verses to so many people and the very last words she spoke were the lyrics to the song, Jesus Loves Me . She was very blessed to have many family members, friends and neighbors who came alongside her through this tough 11 year journey by offering meals, going on walks with her, singing with her and reading aloud. Thanks to perseverent care from her devoted husband, Al, the rest of the family, and her many friends, Maricia was able to be at home and at peace for the rest of her life.

Thank you for all of the love and support and, as Marcia would say, “I pray the Lord will bless you today!”

Marcia’s legacy will be carried on in her memory by husband, Allan; son, Benjamin (Katie) Tlougan and their children, Isaiah, Felicity, Nathanial and Thea; daughter, Dana (Jacob) Jensen and their sons, Malachi, Josiah, Ezekiel, and Isaac; son, Stephen (Laura) Tlougan; daughter, Michelle (Nick) Steigauf and their daughter Kizzy; twin sister, Mary Stellrecht; sister, Jody Toquam; brother, Paul Toquam; other relatives and friends.
