Marcus Schwichtenberg

Marcus Schwichtenberg, of Jordan, passed away suddenly on May 23, 2019 at the age of 70. Funeral service is Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:00 AM with visitation one-hour prior at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (104 First Street West) in Jordan. Pastor Jeremy Glowicki will preside, and Marcus’ nieces will act as his urn bearers. Marcus will be laid to rest at Spirit Hill Cemetery in Jordan.

On July 26, 1948, Marcus Meyer Schwichtenberg was born to parents, Harvey & Della (Meyer) Schwichtenberg. He was the oldest of two boys, and loved growing up in Jordan with his little brother, Jon. As a boy, Marcus enjoyed fishing at the falls and spending time with his cousins. They’d cruise up and down the streets in his dad’s cool car. Marcus was also a talented singer and performed in an octet group with his brother. While at college he preformed in the musical Brigadoon.

Growing up, Marcus helped at his parents’ shop. He spent countless hours at the Variety Store. Like most kids in the area, after he received his drivers license, he was expected to find summer work, either at the pickle factory, de-tasseling corn, or work at the area canning plants; Marcus chose Green Giant. After graduating from Jordan High School in 1966, Marcus attended SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota. He then attended Mankato Vocation School, and while attending he worked part-time for Bolten & Menk as a surveyor/draftsman. He eventually made his way back home and began working.

He had a variety of jobs throughout his life. Marcus worked for Theradyne Corp and a plastics company and in quality control. Eventually Marcus got into novelty sales as a Merchandize Warehouse Assistant Manager helping with inventory, delivery and sales of novelties for the MN Vikings, Twins, and the Target Center. He loved his work and has a large collection of novelty items himself.

Marcus loved the outdoors. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Even in the cold Minnesota winters, he’d be outside on a snowmobile or ice fishing. In the summers he enjoyed riding his motorcycles and spending time out on the lakes in his fishing boat. He enjoyed going to Pioneer Power with his friends. He was also a talented woodworker and made bookshelves, swings and plant stands. His favorite things to make was doll furniture for his two nieces. Marcus loved to spoil Jodi & Jena. He was a wonderful uncle to them. He enjoyed spending time with his 2 buddies, Ken and Steve, fixing and building things.

As Harvey & Della grew older, Marcus was right there to lend a helping hand. He was their primary caregiver and took wonderful care of them. He was always very close with his parents and loved them deeply. Marcus was a caring and generous man. He will be remembered always for his kind heart.

Marcus will be missed by his brother, Jon (Janice) Schwichtenberg; nieces, Jodi (Jamie) Meister and Jena (Paul) Osterman; great-nieces & nephews, Riley, Emma, James & Jon; special friends, Jim Bastyr, Steven Kovich, and Ken & Joan Wagner; other loving relatives and friends. Marcus was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Harvey & Della Schwichtenberg; infant brother; great-nephew, Mason.
