Margaret “Maggie” Klein, age 76, of Chanhassen, MN, formerly of Shakopee, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Methodist Hospital, St, Louis Park, MN.
A time of gathering will be on Monday, June 24, from 4-7 pm and one hour prior to the Funeral Liturgy on Tuesday, June 25, at 11 am, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation, 833 S. Marschall Road, Shakopee. Fr. Erik Lundgren will preside. A private family burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Excelsior, MN.
Anson and Lorraine (Studer) Mase proudly announced the birth of Margaret on February 23, 1943, born in Minneapolis, MN. She was the fourth of six children, growing up in Excelsior. Maggie’s father was very instrumental with the life of Lake Minnetonka, especially the building of the well-known Tonka Belle boat. The Mase family spent countless hours working, boating, fishing and spending time on the lake. Maggie attended Minnetonka High School and was involved in synchronized swimming club.
Maggie married Steve Effertz and from this union became the mother to three children, Tom, Dan and Cindy. Her main focus in life was raising her children. As a family, they enjoyed the annual camping, fishing and boating trips to Myrtle Lake in Orr, MN. Maggie was always attending and supporting them in their school activities. She was also involved in her faith, at the Church of St. Mary, and supporting the Red Cross with their blood drives. After 17 years of marriage Maggie and Steve parted ways.
Working odd jobs at first, Maggie became a successful realtor. After the sale of her first home, Maggie treated her children to a trip of a lifetime to Disney World. For the next 40 years, she worked tireless hours securing the perfect home for individuals and families. Maggie was so proud of the clientele she built through the years. Her career brought Maggie other adventures. She was involved in the Shakopee Rotary, Scott County HRA and the Scott County Land Condemnation Committee.
Life for Maggie was enriched meeting a gentleman named Thomas B. Klein or as she would call him, “TK.” On June 12, 1981, at the Shakopee House, they declared their love to each other. Maggie’s family instantly grew to include Tom’s children, Erik and Aimee. Over the next 38 years, they had many great adventures. Maggie and TK enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Mille Lacs, fishing, cross country skiing and watching the sunsets. Once a month they kissed under the full moon. They also appreciated the fishing trips to Totem Lodge, in Canada. In the later years, Maggie and TK spent winters at The Villages in Lady Lake, Florida. Here they spent evenings dancing at the square and even dabbled in golfing. Maggie too enjoyed exploring the area on the golf cart.
Maggie relished being a wife, mother and especially being a grandma and great grandma. She loved those grandchildren unconditionally and savored any opportunity to spoil them, especially with her famous back scratches. Margaret “Maggie” Klein was a classy woman, who greeted you with a smile and made you feel important. She was selfless, loving and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Forever missed, Maggie will be forever loved by husband, Tom “TK”; children, Tom (Heidi) Effertz, Dan (Silvia) Effertz, Cindy (Todd) Taylor, Erik Klein, Aimee (Jon) Miller; grandchildren, Paul (Anna) Effertz, Mason Effertz, Madeline Taylor, Emily Taylor, Ethan Klein, Marli Klein, Shayla Miller, Isabella Miller; great-grandchildren, Norah Effertz, Charlie Effertz, Carter Effertz; siblings, Mary Rogers, Martha (Al) Tollefson, Jim (Cindy) Mase; other relatives and friends.
Maggie is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Fred Mase, Mina Mase and brother-in-law, Red Rogers.
